I had booked a 7 night stay at VWL in a 2br using my SSR BWV and some VWL points at the 7 month window. Since we wanted 10 nights, I booked the remaining nights with my VWL points. I then called MS to have the reservations linked. I was told they couldn't be linked but could be combined and to call back when the 7 month window for the last night would be open and it could be done then. So I call back and ask them to be linked, combined again. They tell me ok, just hold a minute...... I'm on hold and of course they ended up cancelling the 3 night ressie and adding the nights to the 7 night ressie. Not a problem for me since I got what I wanted, but my question is WHY didn't they just link or combine them.... I know it was cancelled when I went to look at my activity statement and it clearly states the reservation was cancelled. What would have happened if this was for a hard to get ressie and the cancellation would have resulted in me losing the room.... Did I ask for the wrong thing????

Welcome to the world of MS.

We have lost a AKV CL reservation due to MS switching our reservations around. You may not know that MS can not hold inventory as they make or cancel reservations. They have to leave one screen and go to another, input the info and hope that no one else, MS or owners on line took your room.

Some managers can hold inventory due to their computers having additional capabilities.

The current software is better than it was but it still has problems. Names get moved around, links don't always work as expected and other problems.

DVC does not have their own software, they use Disney's software that is designed for cash reservations so some features don't work as well as they could.

When I had a situation like this, I sent them an e-mail with both reservation numbers and asked them to be linked.

Several folks have posted recently that MS combines reservations into a single reservation now rather than linking them. It also seems that MS is able to "hold" a reservation for a few minutes while doing this. I think we actually are "holding" reservations while booking online now. I got a pop-up message saying something like "you have 20 minutes to complete this reservation." I opened another window to cancel a different reservation then used those points to book the reservation that was being "held" for 20 minutes.

I called MS a couple of weeks ago and found out the same thing. I had a Saturday night reserved and wanted to add the next night (Sunday), too.

The don't "link" any more for this. They actually dissolve the first one and create a new one with the two nights. I had quite a long discussion with the CM and it is better to call MS to do this rather than attempting it online yourself.

Ah the woes of DVC's IT limitations...sigh.

Last week I was told by MS that they have to write down info, log off of one screen and on to another then input the info and save. Until saved they do not know if the reservation went through. She made a comment that online booking has better capabilities than their systems do.

That would not have worked in my case since my original one night was no longer available. So doing it myself was not going to work. If I cancelled, it may have gone off to fill a waitlist, etc. There is no other way to "link" yourself online other than cancel and rebook. :(
