So, I just got back from FMIL's for the holidays. She asked if I was planning on doing an announcement? Ok, someone help me here. What are these? What do they say? Who do I send them to? We are only having immediate family only at the wedding-so what are the point of these? :confused3

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure what announcements she is talking about, maybe wedding announcements.

They pretty much say hey we got married! Yay for us. You could send them to any one you would like to let know that you guys tied the knot. However you don't usually send them until the day you get married or after.

Ran this by mom-she thought it was a good idea...Cool! :thumbsup2

My friend sent out little cards to everyone to announce her engagement....maybe she means this?

Just had the date and that they were engaged...

The only problem with engagement announcements is then some people expect to be invited to the wedding. I mean maybe that is not always the case, but sometimes.

Definitely agree - I wont be sending any for that reason.

Sadly these days faceook spreads the news quicker than any mail. :(

This is true. We are only having immediate family only at our wedding. I think I'm going to send my wedding announcement from Main St. USA on the day we get married. That way, it will be post marked that day too!

I actually had people get mad at me for posting it on facebook and not calling them directly. When i got engaged, I was finishing the semester. I would have had a make a gazillion phone calls. I say if they just can't be happy for you then that is their problem. I can't be held accountable for people getting mad b/c I didn't call them directly. Oh well.

You can send out wedding announcements after the wedding to "inform" family/friends who weren't able to attend - they are very common for destination weddings.

When we were married, we couldn't really invite anyone and so no one attended our Disney wedding. I sent announcements to lots of family friends that included a picture of the two of us (a honeymoon picture) and the following "announcement":

We went away for a much needed vacation
and tied the knot in a MAGICAL location…

Greg and Denise were married
on September 20, 2005
at Walt Disney World’s Sea Breeze Point.

Although we couldn’t have you there in person
Because you have shared in our lives
by your love and friendship,
You were with us on our Special Day!

and we included a link to our wedding pictures.

Thanks for posting this. It helps to see what others have done. I've been looking at them online and really don't see a ton that I love in the announcement section. Can you just order an invite and then have them write what ever you want on them?

I searched a lot before I found a good selection of announcements/wording - we made our own so I only needed the wording (and I'm not sure I can find the place now...it's been awhile). Try altering your search words - like "destination wedding announcement" or something like that, it might give you some different results.

I'm not sure if you can get the companies to just change the words...my guess is probably not because then you get into "custom" stuff...but you never know, it's worth a shot to ask them!

ETA: I found what seems like a lot at this site: http://www.mygatsby.com/wedding_announcements/destination.jsp)

Thanks! Its a good thing I've got time until we have this wedding. There are a lot of design decisions to make!!! LOL

Engagement announcements? Yeah, I agree with what someone else mentioned - don't send them to those who aren't being invited to the wedding. I think it sends the message they should expect to be invited.

If you go to my PJ (in my signature) you can see our announcement.

LOL - when I first saw what you posted, it did kinda remind me of Mickey ears!!

We decided to go with wedding announcements. They will be sent to family the day of the wedding from Main St USA. So, that way they will have the post mark for the day on them.
A friend of mine knows someone locally. I'm gonna check there. I also found americanwedding.com I think that is the link. They had some pretty decent prices too. So much to think about!!!

I found this site that has beautiful photo wedding announcements!

We plan to send these out after the wedding to the hundreds of people that our parents wanted to invite but that we wouldn't let them:lmao: I will probably also stick a save-the-date in with these for our at home reception (which won't be til 6 months after the wedding) and I'll include the link to our pics. The only thing I worry about is that it will be forever by the time I get my pics from my photographer and can actually get these in the mail. Right now I'm undecided between Misty and Randy but maybe if I told them I wanted to do this they could get me a few "sneak peak" pics ASAP so I can get these made and in the mail:confused3
