Two months ago I booked a standard room at the AKL got a AAA rate for April 4-7. Arriving late on Friday night.

A couple of weeks later I called back and was willing to pay the full price because I really wanted a savanna view since it is our Anniversary. Well AKL is sold out.

With a very late check in, at a sold out resort, is it possible to get a room upgrade or will I get whatever is left over?

The trip is to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary and I made note of that on our reservation. Hoping for some Anniversary Pixie dust.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you booked a standard room, expect a standard room. Unless they overbooked standards, you'll probably get what you booked when you made your reservation.

Upgrades are done completely at random, I believe. I don't think they're really even done by a human, I think it happens on the computer. I wouldn't go in expecting one, sorry. Late check in has nothing to do with it. People check in at all times.

They will likely give you anniversary buttons to wear, which will get you some attention around WDW. I got one for a birthday celebration a few years ago and it was fun. I got cake/dessert at every restaurant I went to. I was sick of cake by the end of the week. :rotfl:

Even without a savanahh view, AKL is amazing. I stayed in a standard room there once and it was great. The view was just of the roof, nothing hideous. Me and my friend watched the animals from the public viewing areas.

I won't be disappointed in the standard view. I have never stayed at AKL and its one of the resorts I have always wanted to stay at.
I was just hoping I could get an upgrade.

What would be even cooler than a savannah room upgrade, concierge savannah, or better yet a suite. I know keep dreaming.

My best advice is keep trying before you leave to see if a better room has become available or when you check-in ask if any upgrades are possible. If none are available then be happy with the room you selected and the fact your celebrating an anniversary at WDW.

i a gree with whoever said to eb happy with a standard view, dont go in thinking you will get an upgrad,e b/c if you dont you will be disapointed. go in thinking you wont, so if you do, its extra special! we stayed AKL for our anniversary ind ec. at a standard view, and upo check in asked if there was any upgrades available ad that it was our anniversary. he said "let me speak with y manager" and he came back and they upgrade dus to a savannah view room. we were rgateful, but would ahve been fine either way, so it made it that much more exciting! good luck!

You're going at a very busy time. I wouldn't count on getting a freebie upgrade. If you were doing an early February anniversary trip, you might have had a better chance.

Don't be dissapointed. My MIL booked standard view while my DH and I booked savannah view. Litterally she was about 6 rooms down from us and had almost the same view in a stardard view room.
