Interpol have issued a red notice, meaning that if she leaves the USA she will be arrested. The penalty for causing death by dangerous driving is not particularly harsh in the U.K.. She could even be given a suspended sentence. Why not face justice? Wouldn’t that be easier than living with feelings of guilt ‘on the run’?

The short answer is diplomatic immunity means never having to say you're sorry.

(Yes, I know there are exceptions, but that doesn't work with my pithy one-liner.)

Also, according to this article at least, the individual cannot waive diplomatic immunity. That article also points out a number of situations where the use of diplomatic immunity appears to be unfair or unjust. So while "everybody else does it" isn't a defense, it does appear this isn't the first time someone was hurt or killed and diplomatic immunity was a barrier to justice.

I have to agree that it was unfair for this person to be allowed to leave the country and not face the charges against her.
If I were a Brit, it would certainly leave a bad taste in my mouth toward America.

She just plead guilty via video. It’s unclear about sentencing. Apparently she did so because UK law changed to allow for video appearances.
