Hey guys. I am in a great mood today.

Yesterday, my dad told me he heard "meowing" and "screaming" out in the back yard. I went out, followed the noise, and found a kitten in a bad predicament. One of it's back legs was caught on something (hard to explain with just text.) The kitten did not appear healthy at all. It looked as though it was dying. It looked no more than three-months old. Being the animal-lover I am, I was freaking out! It didn't belong to anybody. It was a stray.

I am an avid volunteer at a local animal shelter, and also a paid worker for them as well. Being as careful as I could, I untangled the kitten, who didn't put up a fight but was meowing its head off. I put it in a box with a towel, and rushed it there. A couple other volunteers looked at it, and took it to a local animal hospital. And later, they came back while I was working, and said it is perfectly fine now. I guess you could say that I saved its life.

Anyway, its all been done with. The kitten, now named Sheba, is being fostered by a friend of mine with intentions that when it grows up a little more, it will be brought to the shelter to be available for adoption.

I want to start an all-out animal talk thread. Talk about your experiences with animals. Talk about your own pets. Also, tell what you think about animal issues across the nation such as the Michael Vick dog-fighting case and stuff.

Remember, keep it clean. Thank you all. God bless.

oh how great, that's so nice of you to save the kitty, the michael vick dog fight thing oh it broke my heart to read in TIME magazine that if the animal lost it would be hung, strangled, or electrictued. I was so sad and that was all I could think of last night, it was so mean to hurt animals.

I agree..

I would have like passed out if I saw a dying animal in my backyard.

I know, it's just so mean!

Well, you have to understand that it didn't belong to anybody. We have stray cats running around our neighborhood all the time. I think that someone in our neighborhood feeds them, and that's why they stay, mate, and have kittens. In Ohio, by law, no animal agency can do anything to them because they are considered a predator (kinda along side mountain lions, etc.) I think it's a bunch of bull. You can tell the difference between a cat and a mountain lion pretty easily if you ask me.

There's a neighborhood outside of Cincinnati that is literally infested with cats. They all surround this one house. It must belong to a person that feeds them. The stench of animal poop and even dead cats can be smelled throughout the neighborhood. The residents have tried to get people to come take them away, but by law, they can't do anything about it.

I don't see why cats are considered a predator. It would dramatically lower the cat population if you humanely catch them, spay/neuter them, and make sure they are healthy. And then, you can find homes for them. What I did is something that other people should do. The bottom line is that a lot of people just don't care.

I was talking about the michael vick dog fighting thing. not about the cat.

How cool!
My grandmother has three full grown female cats, and one's too old to have kittens, but the other two just keep on poping 'em out. So, now they have five baby kittens. They are so adorable! There's two orange ones, a white one with a gray tail, a white one with an orange tail, and a black-gray one. They are adorable.

We have cats around our house all the time.
My cat that I have now had kittens a while back and we gave most of them away, but two got out of the garage and we couldn't find them. So we came home from wal-mart and one of the kittens had come back--but she wasn't a kitten anymore. She was beautiful. My parents wouldn't let me keep her, because she looked healthy and clean, so they assumed she had a home.

Then, a few months later, I was out back and my cat was meowing really loudly. Then I heard a meow that didn't belong to my cat. It was the other baby kitten, but he wasn't a baby anymore. He wouldn't let me touch him, but at least I got to see him again.

i got a puppy she is the cutest dog ever and i got a cat that my parents saved. she was the kitten of a stray and the rest of her litter was eaten by raccoons.

I've been raising rats for over 6 years now. I love them with a passion. Been riding horses for over 10 years and I volunteer at a therapy riding center, I work with kids with disabilities and exercise horses. That's where I originally met my equine soulmate, a rescued Arabian who shared my passion for jumping. He passed away a few years ago but now there's a very cute young pony that is obsessed with me that I visit every time.

My favorite animal experiences in general include feeding two Baringo Giraffes, feeding and getting kisses from a Sumatran Rhinoceros, feeding yogurt to a family of small monkeys, shaking hands and grooming with a Spider Monkey, handling a Tarantula, "petting" an Alligator, howling with a Timber Wolf, and coming face to face with a large male Sumatran Tiger and a Jaguar.
Most people can't say they've done most of that!

And when I worked at a pet store all the parrots hated me (and bit me on many occasions) except for one. She entertained me by imitating the spray bottle noise and wearing the bell hanging in her cage like a hat. Haha.

Oh and has anyone seen the resident cats at Disneyland?
I saw a few last time and they were just so sweet, rubbing against my legs and purring while I ate lunch. Maybe they just wanted my food! LOL.

I have a lot of animal stories. C:

Sorry, my bad. I was basically expanding on what I said at the start of the thread. I guess I didn't have to quote you before.

But yeah, I hope Michael Vick is finished for good. I'm no animal activist, but I just don't see the pleasure that people get with the dogfighting industry. Something is not right in your soul if you get pleasure out of this stuff.

One time at the local park when my family and I were out for a walk, we heard a loud mewing coming from the bushes. My dad looked in it (it was a dry swamp... during a drout) and saw a small black kitten. Me and my mom came back to give the kitty a bowl of food. She actually came up to us, and I think this was the saddest thing I ever witnessed.

The kitty came up, meowing, as if asking us for help. She was so tiny, very much still a kitten. Her front right leg had almost no hair, and was red and swollen. Her held was tilted to the side as if it was stuck that way.

I sat the food down. We weren't able to do anything for the kitty. Me and my mom were crying our eyes out, so we had to run back to the car. We couldn't take her home, because if she was sick we couldn't risk getting our babies sick, because our kitties hadn't gotten their shots reknewed this year.

We called animal control and showed them where the kitty was. They said they would get her to a vet and then, if she wasn't deathly ill, she would be put up for adoption at the local shelter. I hope to God she's okay and that she got a good home. I know that if she wasn't deathly ill she would definitly be alive, as all shelters in my county are no-kill.

I just cannot believe how somebody could ever do that. How could somebody drop off a sick little kitten?? If the poor baby is beyond help, at least pay the $50 for euthanesia so the sweetie can go peacefully without suffering! Heck, most vets will do it for free. It's just beyond me how somebody could be so sick and twisted that they would do that to a baby, because the cat was obviously not feral, or she wouldn't have come so close to us.

Okay I'm getting carried away, sorry. I just feel so strongly about this.

Did you get to pet the tiger/ jaguar?? Even if not that's really cool. I had a lot of expieriences like that at my Busch Gardens Adventure Camp, my favorite being to get within 3 feet of a serval (No cage between us, she was being walked on a harness)! That same serval was in the habitat in the place we were sleeping, and when I poke my finger through the wire she licked them! So sweet :).

Also I hope I get to go to Disneyland and see the cats! That would be the highlight of my trip!

But even though I haven't seen the Disneyland cats, Islands of Adventure a has really pretty Clan of big fat tabby cats who live in the Jurassic Park Area. The employees feed them.

And speaking of wild cats, there are some at my Walmart who live in the Garden Center at night, and some ones who live at my library that the old man janitor feeds. The library is in a very quiet part of town and is on a big hill near a big lake with lots of bushes. Perfect for kitties! And if you go there early you can see wild bunnies. Sometimes I see turtles popping there heads up from the lake, too.

That's awesome.

I'm a softy when it comes to animals, especially cats.

As much as we don't like the dog fighting thing, its been going on for an extremely long time, and I don't think it will stop any time soon. :sad2:

i thought dog-fighting was a banned sport?
maybe it just is here.
anyways it's cruel full stop.
yep i'm a huge softie when it comes to animals.
i love horses.
i have a pony called sparky and he is my life.
i've only been riding for 4 years.
i love watching horses race but i'd seriously like to injure the owners/trainers/jockey's that let their horses run when they're lame and then make them run a hurdle or flat race. don't think i'd be upset or guilty when they fell i'd just tell them they deserved it. Bitter medicine ent it?

I don't know if it's just local news, but in NYC the guy that tied a pit bull to a tree and poured gasoline on it and lit the poor thing on fire just got caught. The pit bull survived, but he's in pretty bad shape. How could you do that to a living thing?

Anyway, I love all animals, but I'm allergic to cats.
I had two dogs, Charlie and Thatcher, and they were both rescues, but they died when I was eight.
And my lifelong dream has been to be a dolphin trainer. Not full time, but maybe I'll do it in my twenties or something. :]
