Hi QueenAJ. First, AKL is fantastic and you will love your stay there. Next, I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can. I'm sure other DISers will soon chime in with the rest of the answers.
(1) Theoretically, AK is walking distance from AKL, however I haven't done this. Also, I gather that there is no path and that you'd be walking on the highway--not too safe. However, it's unnecessary to do this since the buses show up regularly and the bus ride is very very short from AKL to AK.
(2) It's true what you've read: bus transportation from AKL is superb. They don't share buses with any other resort and the buses show up all the time. I don't think we waited more than 15 minutes or so (and often only 2 or 3 minutes) for a bus--and we were there in January, when the parks and lodge were relatively empty. In fact, we had 2 bus trips to/from AKL where my dh and I were the only 2 people on the bus!
(3) The ticket and transportation center is sort of near MK, however, I believe (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

) that this is not the best/easiest/fastest way to travel from resort to resort.
Here's my take on resort-to-resort travel: If you're doing it during hours when the parks are open, the easiest thing to do is take a bus from AKL (assuming that's where you're starting from, of course!

) to a park. Now here's where some strategy can come in. Which park you choose depends on where you're going and also the hours of the park in question. For example, if you're going from AKL to an MK resort (GF, CR, Poly, WL), the easiest thing to do is to take the AKL bus to the MK and from there transfer to a boat or monorail to your resort of choice. If you're going to BWI/BC/YC/Swandolph, then a bus from AKL to MGM or Epcot makes the most sense (there are more particulars involved here, but I won't go into them--pm me if you need specific info on this).
But all the above stuff falls apart if you're resort-hopping after the parks are closed--say, if you're having dinner at the Contemporary and won't be done until after the MK is closed. In that case, the easiest way to get back to AKL is by cab. Not sure how much that costs.
If all this seemed confusing,

uh, well, it is! But HTH anyway.
