We just got back from a few nights at AKL and LOVED it. While it rained most of the trip and we went to the parks the lodge offered so much for our family to do.

I am looking at booking a trip for next summer and am curious if we should pick the standard room (2 queen beds) or a standard studio for our family of 4, kids will be 3 & 6 at time of stay?

We will utilize the dining plan, so we won't' be eating in the room. So, the availability of a microwave doesn't seem necessary. I don't necessarily want to make up a pull out couch each night either.

Is there something I am missing in the difference of these room? I want to make sure for the money I am not missing anything.

Thank you!

I have never stayed in an AK studio, however, I've read that the pull-out sofa is very uncomfortable. I would go with the regular room and two actual beds.

Look into renting points for a 1 bedroom. It may come out to be cheaper than a standard room booked through Disney. That way some room to spread out.

I just stayed at a deluxe studio at WL for the first time vs a standard room. The only real benefits in the studio room I saw were having a full coffee pot if you drink coffee, an extra sink in the little kitchen area, a regular mini fridge vs a beverage cooler (gets colder), and a microwave. Also walking around the resort I was able to use my magic band to access the DVC laundry room while booking through Disney, though I didn't actually try and use the machines I could get in the room so I think I could have used them.

Overall for 2 people I'd only book a studio over a standard room IF prices were equal, but with 4 people I think the extra real bed trumps all the extras I saw in the deluxe studio.

Although your post doesn't mention which side of AKL, we stayed at Kidani village on rented points, but I wouldn't stay again, only in Jambo House. I also concur the sofa bed is uncomfortable, it was me that drew the short straw that trip!

The standard room will be better with 2 queen beds (more comfortable).

If for any reason you decide on the studio, note that you won’t have to “make” the pull out couch every night. Once you open it the first night, it will remain open.
