I am trying to plan a afternoon/evening trip to AK for our trip in June. At first it was a definite because of the ROL show and evening safari. Now the ROL show is not happening (hopefully we can catch it during our Oct trip as we have a whole day/night dedicated to AK and staying at AKL) and I have no idea about showtimes or anything that is happening in AK time wise. Not sure I care to see this Jungle Book show unless you guys think it will be awesome. I am about to say forget AK since we are staying at Poly and I rather go to EPCOT or MK because of convenience. I don't even know what to do for dinner ressies as I think we are going to skip Tusker this time.

What would you do? As it is staying at AK until 9 is pushing my LO who will be 20 months because his bedtime is 8-8:30. I just wish Disney would release some more info. My trip is in 48 days! Sorry for the rant I am just frustrated!

It's not opened yet, it was already moved after they had a date, it could move again.. plan for what is available and if it opens on memorial day, check out the blogs and reports on what it was like and then decide if and what plans to change..

fyi: the jungle book show is so rushed, they haven't even hired all the performers yet. it'll be a quick temporary show using the water screens that they can sell expensive poorly cooked dinners for.

I know Rivers of Light will not be open in mid June. What nighttime show/events will be going on at Animal Kingdom in mid June? It looks like the Tree of Life might have lights? It also seems like there will be a nighttime safari and acrobats in the Harambe area? Anything else?

The nighttime safari, street performers throughout the park, and the Tree of Life display show (Think Celebrate the Magic, kind of) as you already mentioned. The Jungle Book show, which will use the Rivers of Light water screens and live performers, will also be going on while RoL continues to be worked on.

This'll be on top of the traditional shows and attractions having extended hours

Will the Tree of Life lights/display show be running throughout the evening or will it be a one time show?

So does anyone think AK will be open later than 5pm in September probably? I had planned on hopping to MK that afternoon but if they will be doing the night stuff then I will change plans probably

If nothing else maybe you could plan to go early in the morning and then back to the room for some rest then hop back over for some more cooler night time temps and see what is going on. I'm a huge non-planner so I'm tempted to say just go with the flow, book our FPs for whatever you want to do then if you leave and want to go back, do so, if you just aren't in the mood enjoy a relaxing resort day, or if you have hopper hop on over to another park.

We're also going in June. Our original AK day plan was:

Arrive at Rope Drop
Stay as long as we want, probably leaving before 5:00 pm park close
Boatwright's ADR at 6:00

The hours were then extended to 8:00, in anticipation of some evening activities, and we adjusted as follows:

Arrive at Rope Drop
Stay as long as we want
Boatwright's ADR at 5:00
Return to AK, staying until park close

Then, the hours change AGAIN, this time being extended to 11:00, with the announcement of the Jungle Book show. Here's where we're at now:

Arrive at Rope Drop
Stay as long as we want
Boatwright's ADR at 6:00
Return to AK, staying until park close
FPs are made early, for Kali, Everest, and Dinosaur. I check MDE several times a day to see if FPs are available for the Jungle Book show. If and when they are, I will switch the Dino FP to that.

It's a bit complicated, but not overwhelming. Just a bit annoying :)

If I've done this right, this link is to a YouTube video showing a short preview of RoL. If the rest of the show is as spectacular it will blow Fantasmic and Illuminations away. (My opinion only , of course)

We are going just before Halloween. I hope it is running by then.

Wish I knew whether or not AK will extend their hours the first week of July. I am assuming that they will given that we were able to make an ADR at 6pm on July 5. Not sure if spending an evening at the AK is the "best use of our time". I know that's all a matter of personal opinion. DH is not a big fan of the AK so I'm thinking we will go mid-afternoon for FOLK, EE, Dinosaur, dinner and the Jungle Book presentation.

Will the Tree of Life lights/display show be running throughout the evening or will it be a one time show?

It's been described as multiple videos randomly selected, there is no show time so time to time the tree will just come to life and it's automatic like ToT and how it's going to drop you.

I may come to regret it (or maybe I won't) but I am not making any plans to see a dummied down, rushed version of some night time show at AK using a few lasers and a commercial for Jungle Book when I'm there the first week of June. I may also be in the minority here but I don't have a whole lot of interest in seeing Kilimanjaro Safaris at night either. When the real ROL is up and running then I will stick around and see it... I'm still leaving around 4:30 from the park and heading to an excellent dinner at Jiko and then heading to Disney Springs to watch Cirque du Soleil.:goodvibes

I get the feeling that this quickly put together Jungle Book show will just be some film music, a bunch of animated clips projected on some blurry water screens and a few lasers (and no fireworks). I think I'll pass.

I can't believe they couldn't pull off ROL after all the time they spent on it. I wonder if they tried to do something in ROL on the cheap on and it bit them?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have no doubt rol will be spectacular and I hope to see ot in Oct but I agree this temp show is probably not something I need to go out of my way to see. Since we have a trip planned for oct I think we may skip the evening stuff in June.

Maybe, maybe not-I think it is premature to completely write off JB myself before anyone has even seen the finished product.
