how long does it take to do Gorilla Falls Trail and Maharajah Jungle trek?
also, is Rafiki's planet watch still there? trying to plan out my AK morning.

For us the two trails are flexible — if the young gorillas or tigers are playing we’ll spend more time watching them — but I usually allow 30-45 minutes at least. If no stops to look at anything they could probably be walked through in 20 minutes minimum.

Rafiki’s is currently closed. It’s supposed to reopen this spring but no date announced yet.

We spend about 30 min or so for each. While we have walked through countless times, we don't rush through and take our time. Like the above poster mentioned, if the gorillas or tigers are playful, we might linger longer.

Yeah, depends on your group. I think Touring Plans default for both is 20 min, but my family can easily spend an hour if we don't have a deadline (FP or dining reservation) . . . but that includes striking up conversations with cast members along the trail, doing the Wilderness Explorer Activities, and stopping at every interactive feature, as well as watching the animals.

what are the "wilderness explorer activities"

Also, I think this is more of an evening than a morning problem, but those trails often do not have the same hours as the rest of the park.

As you enter the park right at the front there is a stand set up with "Wilderness Explorers" where you sign up and get a book. Its aimed at kiddos but I always find it fun to do and like going around. Within the trails there are loads of cute activities or stops to complete little bits of your book and then you get a sticker/stamp to say you have completed it. If you complete all your book you become an Official Wilderness Explorer

I have gotten there early in the morning when the trails were open but the gorilla family had not come out yet.

If you are interested in the gorillas, talk to the cast members there. The background of the individual gorillas is interesting. If the first cast member you ask doesn't know much, ask another one.

Can you start it on one day and finish it on another?

We did maharaja last time, maybe 15 minutes with my son who has zero interest in it. The ruins there are so beautiful! I guess the time spent depends and the interest level of the people walking it. We walked pretty slow and it was tops 15 minutes. Gonna try gorilla trail this year:)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those trails! I would say its about a 15-30 minute experience depending on interest and animal viewing. One time the tigers were playing and I was back there for about 45 minutes.

They are stunning and gorgeous, but the animal viewing can be lack luster at times.

Can you start it on one day and finish it on another?

Yes and we have actually brought back on subsequent trips to finish when we haven't managed to get it all done in one - dependent on remembering! I know its aimed at kiddies but I really enjoyed it. The activities are aimed probably at pre-teens but as a 39 year old I still find it fun especially on a relaxed day around Animal Kingdom as it makes you stop and learn things as you go around. I haven't done since Pandora opened though so this year I am definitely redoing!

Yep. My daughter ended up with two booklets though because she started collecting before Pandora opened and finished after more badges had been added for it. We just tore the new pages out of the second booklet and inserted them into her old one. Any WE "leader/guide?/cast member" can perform the final "ceremony" to get the senior wilderness badge (it's a sticker).

YES - take your time and no telling what will unfold in front of you

Got lucky to watch the tigers play. We stayed here for over 30 minutes watching them stalk and attack. Came back later in the day for another session.

cool video of the monkeys. The sounds they make are pretty incredible. I was not able to see them on this short video, the monkeys were in the trees and hidden. Still - you only experience this if you stop and watch.

At least 30 minutes. Often more depending on how active the animals are.

We have walked straight through Gorilla Falls in about 15 minutes. This is walking fast and only stopping briefly to look at the gorillas and hippos.
