Animal Kingdom “special” experiences...

Hey, I’m helping my friend plan her trip to WDW. It will be her daughter’s first trip ever (she’ll be 8). Both my friend and her DD are animal lovers so she’s looking into the “dine with an animal specialist”. I’m concerned the food at Sanaa and the length of the experience might be a no-go for her DD. Has anyone taken a kid that young? Thoughts? I was thinking of suggesting “Caring for Giants” or a nighttime safari instead. Does anyone have any feedback on those? Thanks!!!

As far as the specialist lunch, I think it would depend entirely on the child and her personality. In general, 8 does seem a bit young. I've done it twice, but there were no children present either time. It's mostly talking with a brief animal encounter at the end, and I thought it was really interesting. Would I have thought so at 8 years old? Not sure!

Re: other special animal experiences, is the Wild Africa Trek in their budget? The minimum age for that one is also 8, and that one is much more active, though there is a minimum height and weight as well for safety. Close views of the hippos and gators, the rope bridges, a great safari ride with lots of stopping and good views. However it is pricey and takes a decent chunk of time out of the day, which might not be ideal for a first trip.

Free (at this point) tours just started at Rafiki's Planet watch....they can see areas like the animal nutrition and vet center. I don't know how to pull in a link...you will find some info if you search for the thread titled "Looking for new experiences...."

Caring for Giants is great and very reasonable in price. We enjoyed wonderful views of the elephants while listening to our tour guide. I think it would be perfect for an 8-year-old!
