Anyone every used this organization? It seems like a great deal for groceries....and I am always looking for a great deal?

However, we can certainly afford to buy our groceries at the regular grocery store. However, it says it is for folks with any income. It seems like they save their money by buying in very large bulk quantities.

What am I missing? I don't want to take advantage of a charity that I don't really need when others really do need it. However, if it is just a situation where the more people willing to do it reduces costs for everyone..then I am all for it.

Is is subsidized or is it like a co-op?

i've never used it but have researched it out of curiosity after a friend of mine mentioned that she was thinking of buying from them...there are very mixed reviews about the quality of food...some people say it is just okay ... but most say it is very poor quality meat ... lots of grissle and fat and that the frozen foods are sometimes inedible ...

this is only the information i have read --- keep in mind that i did read some positive reviews as well, but the negative far outweighed the positive...

speaking of groceries --- we are a family of 5 and i was finding that i was spending apx $500 a month on groceries, that was using coupons, but not going coupon crazy...

i finally decided that i would give bulk buying a shot...one week i went to Sam's and spent about $425 on groceries and have since committed to going every Friday to replish only what we need...

OMG...what a difference in our grocery bill!!! --- some weeks i walk out only spending $35...the most i have spent in 1 week is $100...it is averaging out to about $275 that i am spending a month on groceries --- that is quite a savings from my previous $500 a month ... and i no longer need to waste time clipping coupons, since Sam's doesn't accept them...

i am now a firm believer in buying in bulk, making small portion bags of large bulk items and freezing, freezing, freezing...

it is working out great!!!

It is not a charity. It is meant for anyone who wants to use it. I'm not sure how they get the food . Some of it is decent and some of it is hit or miss IMO. You can go online and check out the menu and see if that month's menu looks good to you.

We tried it out a couple years back for about 6 months or so...and just found the meat quality to not be very good. I would try it and see what you think. Because you preorder what package you want, Angel Food goes and buys what they need in a bulk manner...and gets the much lower prices. It is not need based, and I saw all sorts of people using it in our area.

I also, experimented with bulk buying at that time, and really cut down our food budget by alot doing that. I made out a list of all the items I normally buy, went to the bulk store and wrote down all the prices for things and figured out the per ounce price...if it was cheaper, I bought it bulk. I now buy about 60% of our groceries bulk. I spend about $300 every 2wks for our family of 6. This is down from about $450 per week before buying bulk. It takes a little bit of time to realize the savings, but once you get on a rotation of buying then you will be stocked with some items for a couple months (ie:syrup, ketchup, etc)

Take Care!
