Being the good Aunt that I am, I ask this on behalf of my Dniece who is taking her DH, DD 6 and DD 2 for their very first trip to WDW in mid-March. (We've told her bad timing for a first trip with the Spring Break crowd, but it's the only time they can go...)

Dn's problem is take their own stroller...one of the Graco kind that doubles as the car seat or rent one at the parks?

With the question in mind, please note that her DD 6 is a big girl...about 75 lbs. and her DD 2 is a tall and lanky girl who would need a stroller most likely anyway. I've suggested that they rent one of the double strollers in case DD 6 gets tired that way her dad won't have to carry her...she does tend to get tired and whiny after a long day.

Additionally, they will only be in the parks for 3 or 4 days and are NOT staying on property...so if they decide to rent can someone give me the scoop on the multiple day discount available and how to get a stroller with the least hassle? Or should they just bring DD 2's stoller and just risk the older one? I'm still thinking the two seater...extra storage space in any case.

I am asking the DIS know-it-alls on this because I've never done WDW with a stroller and can't imagine. Any advice you all might be able to give so I can pass along would be greatly appreciated!! :grouphug:

Thanks!

I would recommend bringing the stroller for the airports (wheel it up to the plane with the carseat on top and then check it like a wheelchair, it's waiting at the door when you disembark). Then when they're at WDW, it depends on where they are staying and where they are going. Those strollers are too bulky, imho, to break down and carry on a bus, but if it's a boat or monorail, no problem, wheel them on. Also, I highly recommend renting the double stroller, (even the most energetic 6yo will probably need it at some point). You can rent them on day one for the length of your stay and save a few dollars while saving time (you only have to wait in line to rent once).

Oops! I forgot..they are driving...so I guess the the bulky-ness won't be an issue.

An after thought to this question...is it do-able to make into the park without a stroller for a 2 year old? They have trams from the parking lot, right? I know, I sound pretty pathetic, but I haven't stayed off property and driven to the parks since 1990...we always use Disney transportation.

Thanks again! Dniece is more frazzled about this trip than I am our in December.

I also say bring your own stroller. After walking a bit in the parks ANY kid or adult will get tired.
When we go we bring our Graco stroller for our youngest (will be 2 on this years trip), and a umbrella stroller for our oldest daughter ( 5 on tis years trip).
The umbrella stroller was $20.00 at Babies R Us and when folded fits under the other stroller. The hooks on the handles fit over the handle of the bigger stroller. The wheels of the umbrella one fit nicely under the seat of the bigger one and into the bottom basket. That way it was out of the way until our older daughter was tired.

We just got back with our 8 yr DD, 7 yr DS, 4 yr DS, and 18 month DD. WE brought a stroller for the baby but wish we had rented a double every day in the parks. We only did for one of the 3 days. We piled the three older kids in the double stroller and it was great! We were able to move through the crowds much easier and didn't have to worry about the kids getting separated from us either. Even the older kids wanted a break from walking--were able to sit back and ride and have a drink of water. If I was driving down, I would definitely not bring a stroller along--just rent a double at the park. After riding in a stroller at the parks all day, the two year old will probably be eager to walk back to the car! Also, the line to get a stroller wasn't bad at all and very easy to return IMO.

Thanks to you all! I will let Dniece know that the double stroller might be the way...if nothing else for them to take their own.

When I was last at WDW in October with my DD(5 1/2), DS(nearly 4) and DD(21 months) I brought a single for the youngest and rented a double in the parks for the older 2 using the multiday option. You choose the number of days and save 10%. The big advantage is that you only have to pay 1 time and then don't have to wait in the pay line again. The lines were never too long. The rental strollers are really easy to push which will be a big plus with your older niece. The really funny thing is that my youngest only wanted to ride in the rental stroller so if your younger niece is anything like mine she'll be very happy with the rental.
