Anaheim ok's housing

Hmm, well I can see why Disney would be a little (ok, maybe a lot) peeved. But like they said in the article, it's not exactly like Disney's just going to leave the area. Though I could see them not wanting to spend as much time/money on the DLR if the city's going to go against what Disney wants. Hmm, very tough issue.

What bothers me is how this has been misrepresented - the land developer has closed down a 300 unit mobile home park and will replace it with a 1500 unit development that includes only 225 low cost units. But the developer has been lobbying hard - I've received several glossy mailers in the last week even though I don't live near that area. Don't let the hype fool you - it's all about the profit the 1300 full price units will bring, it's not about low cost housing.

I can really see both sides of this. On the one hand, there is a definite need for low income housing in the area. Disney (along with most of the businesses around the resort) simply does not pay their employees a living wage. An average CM could not afford to live without at least one roommate in southern California. And I am not sure how anyone could support a family on an average CM salary. Having some kind of affordable housing in the area would really help a lot of the resort employees (as well as other local families).

On the other hand, I can see why Disney is ticked off about this decision. It's going to have a big impact on a lot of their plans, and I'm really surprised that Anaheim did this considering the revenue that Disney brings in to the city.

However, I'm not too terribly worried that the low income housing is going to bring crime to the resort area or that it will become "Ghetto Disney". The people who sell you your churros deserve a nice place to live, too.

The fact is... Disney further tried to play hardball (and be even further corporately pushy) with the city in which I live (for over 3 decades now) ... a city that has done as much for Disneyland as Disneyland has done for Anaheim... and Disney lost this time.
It's about time.

Does anyone really think it's really legal to not install any restroom facilties in a 2000 seat theater?

Disney owes the city of Anaheim.
As much as Anaheim owes Disney.

It's about time Disney started to respect their side of this major corporation < MAJOR California city relationship more.

Hard working people, even 1000s of Cast Members... deserve a better/new place to live and still close to work when they get off work making magic for millions that isn't a weekly motel a few blocks down Harbor Blvd.
Now maybe more hard working CM's of all adult ages ... and other Anaheim residents ... will have better places to live.

The Anaheim Resort isn't going to be affected at all.
These are normal people that are going to be moving into new housing... it's not a prison farm camp.

Those OC correctional facilities are already on the other side of the 22.... and have been for years.

Low rent housing in Anaheim, on what is not Disney property... is not an expansion of the OC prison system. :rotfl2:
