An Open Live Trip Report the Last Week of March 2014

Well we made it and are setup. Had dinner at TR. Bama ED it does look like FW is book solid we are in loop 900.
Glad to see that everyone is safe.

We are here and I'm having an anxiety attack. We aren't really camping people we just wanted cheap, now I'm stuck in an uncomfortable situation. Not to mention it is PACKED HERE! I'm hoping some sleep will help and I'll feel better about things tomorrow.

Why are you having an anxiety attack? What is uncomfortable? The Fort is awesome, sadly we aren't there right now, but many of us are here (physically and wistfully) here to help you. But first, just enjoy being at Disney.

I could be sandpapering a bobcat's rearend on the porch at Trail's End and still be more comfortable than I am stuck here at home.

Get you some sleep, start over anew in the morning. It's the Fort! It's not just cheap, it is the most friendly laid back resort they have.

Ed, keep it coming...

I will try to find you in 1500 or 2000 tmrw to see if I can answer any questions.

Glad to see y'all made it to the Fort. And you finished your Mickey lamp, looking good.
Wish we were there..

A morning update.

Headed out for a morning walk. Early morning as the sun comes up is my favorite time at the Fort.

Last night we went down to the beach for the EWP and fireworks. I admit I was dragging last night.

There are two adjacent sites in 100 that are highly decorated.

On the walk this morning I learned a few things. For example, some folks do sneak in and boondock. This van had people sleeping inside in the Meadow Parking spot out on the main road between 800 and 900. Dad needs to get that snoring checked into.

I think I found WeCamp2 and JaredJohn4. JJ4 looks like he got his 1300 loop request and for WC2 the number 73 is significant.

Heading around to loop 2000 the Boy Scouts were headed to the parks in matching Class B uniforms (Be Prepared). But they didn't see the deer across the road from the loop entrance.

DD also saw some turkeys by 900 yesterday.

Here is a good picture of a 2000 site. Note the pad is bigger and there is a little extra cutout for where the picnic table is.

I THINK these are new at the Fort since my last visit but along with speed limit signs there are detectors and display signs to show your present speed. I hope they can detect golf carts and display their speed too.

The family rabble wants to head to DTD this morning so I guess that's the plan for early today.

Bama ED

Woohoo! DHS this morning. We've never been at a park for rope drop, it was unreal watching grown people run for rides. We got what we wanted out of it this morning, now it's time for the boat ride to Epcot and lunch. Just a little relaxin during the day.

We just returned from the Fort a week ago today. Already missing it. We were in site 429, very close to the action but also a very quiet site. ( although we could still here the Water Parade and boat whistle, wouldn't have it any other way).
We also went to the HDDR on our first night and sat in the balcony.
Glad you're having a good time. Wishing you all a very magical vacation!
:yay:

Thanks for the post Boomer1. You did HDDR from the balcony on your first night too? Was Anthony your waiter? Small world. I like 400 loop so far.

Thank you so much for this thread! We just purchased a pop-up last year and made the decision to head to the Fort next month. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! I have been reading the threads daily in anticipation. I have taken a lot of information down that should be beneficial for our visit. While I was reading this thread and looking at the pictures my excitement grew even more ( didn't think that was possible)! Hope everyone has a great time. I look forward to reading more about your trip!

Good luck with the popup, luvdisney01. I hope the crowds are manageable for you. With Easter being in April this year, it stays crowded through Easter week then drops off a little. I was at the Fort in April last year post-Easter and while it was busy, it wasn't full like now.

I went to DTD and the grocery store this morning. On the way back in there is this sign re: parking:

tiggerdad, your old site 420 next to me is available this morning. When I said it was a "shade tunnel", I was serious.

I checked out the building behind the 300 loop canal across on the other side over the spillway. If it's a bathouse it must be the Taj Mahal of bathouses. It's behind a locked fence/gate.

The old Headless Horseman's cabin is off to the left for spatial reference.

The DIS green ears sign paid off when DIS poster Corgidad, DW, and two corgi's rolled up in their golf cart to say hello. They're following this live TR too so thanks for stopping by and good luck to you and your plans.

I have some pix of the pony ride area and the horse barn that I will put in a separate post.

Bama ED

A couple stories here before I get to the ponies and the horse barn.

On the drive down yesterday DS#2 had allergies flare up so I stopped off I75 in Lake City to get him some Claritin-D at a CVS or Walgreens. It works for him but it also can be used in illegal ways and when I finally found a pharmacy with it in stock, I had to bring DS#2 into the store to sniff/snort for the lady to validate his symptoms because she wouldn't simply sell it to me. I understand their diligence but the episode added 30 minutes to our arrival time.

When I did reach the checkin lanes and rolled right up to the window, the overhead background music was the FW hour-long BGM loop that I have and know so well. I hummed along while I waited for her to get our paperwork.

On to the ponies and the Tri-Circle-D Farm. No narrative really, just plenty of ponies and nice sights.

This is the platform where the child gets on the pony.

Here is the platform where the child dismounts the pony.

Next it was over to the horse barn.

Bama Ed

At the horse barn this afternoon there were lots of little white ponies and Percherons with a Clydesdale thrown in.

Bama Ed

Thanks Ed, you fulfilled my request for horse pictures for my daughter. I'll show them to her when I get home.

Site 420...I liked that site. Good sun at the back but shade over the front. That oak on th he left, it had a nest and family of squirrels in it. They kept jumping out of tree and running up and down the roof.

That bathouse is unbelievable...

thanks for the pix, Ed...
BTW, I think that strange house on stilts is a bat house.
So you were close...bath vs bat ;)

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Ooops I messed that up didn't I? I think I'll leave it the way it is.

Good catch Peach :surfweb:

PS - was cloudy and cool this morning (ever humid) but this afternoon the coulds have cleared off and we can see a good bit of blue sky. It's warm too.

Dear lord we may never get there! Lots of traffic today. Now stopped for gas in Gainesville so the end is in site. I foresee a LARGE glass of wine awaiting me at the Fort!

I'm going to keep throwing posts and pix out there because I don't want to get behind. Tomorrow is EPCOT day and I don't know what I will be able to do then.

I visited the Meadow Trading Post, Pool Area, and Bike Barn just now. There is some kitchy Fort Merchandise besides the t-shirts and other clothing.

The tire cover comes in 4 different sizes. The CM told me the price was $65 but the box he showed me said $59.95. If you know your tire size (Pxxx/Ryy) each box of the four has the tire sizes it will fit. Diameters run 25.5" to 29".

The aluminum chairs (one with an attached side table and the other a rocker) are still there.

People ask about the prices at the TP. There at least 2X what you would pay at home. Here's the canned 6-pack of soda prices.

And at $7.95 for a can of Cheese Whiz, they are damned proud of themselves.

Since the weather is nice there is lots of outdoor action in the Pool-TP-BB area.

Our poster BornToFish/Frank must have friends in high places here because there is a new theme in the area. "Fishing at the Fort". Fishing gear can be rented at the Bike Barn.

Lastly it was back across the Fort to a secret place where I struck pay dirt along time ago. Well, even a blind pig like me finds an acorn once in a while. Because in a sidewalk somewhere in the Fort....

;)

Bama Ed

Made it back to the 1400 loop for some relaxing and swimming with the kids. Got off the bus just in time to see a 45' class A try and figure out how to get out of the predicament he's in. He took the turn to sharp getting in off the road and has run his back end off the pavement and almost over a fence. He's got things jammed up good over at the end of the loop.

That dock sure looks lonely.

Enjoying the TR immensely.
