An Open Letter to VMK--Keep the Spirit of the Year of A Million Dreams Alive on VMK!

First off, let me again say thanks to our beloved hosts Hula, Phinny, and Lily for all the hard work they did to make so many dreams come true last month. I’m sure I speak for the vast majority of VMK players when I say thanks to them and the rest of the VMK staff for all they do to make VMK fun and safe for all of us all year round.

In the spirit of the Year of a Million Dreams, I ask that VMK continue to keep that spirit and excitement alive beyond Dreams month. Each day, one lucky family gets to spend the night in the castle at WDW and the Mickey Penthouse at Disneyland. On VMK, the top dream last month was the Castle Suite, a truly magical and beautiful room that most players dreamt of winning all month long, so why not award one of those rooms each day for playing VMK.

I ask that VMK considers awarding one (or a handful of) lucky players the Castle Suite each night at least through the end of the year so that more people can experience the dream of owning this spectacular room. We know that VMK has the ability to surprise us by adding items to our inventories on special event, so why not use the technology to make more dreams come true on VMK. I’d imagine it would be pretty easy for you to set it up so that the person who is the 10,000 or 13,354 person to log on to VMK would win the room, or the first person to enter a room at a predetermined time each day would automatically win the room just for entering, or the people who win a game of Haunted Mansion at a certain time. Just a random award each day that would be an unexpected surprise for being in the right place at the right time in the park while playing as we normally would, just like they award the dreams in the real parks. Or perhaps even drawing a random name each day to win.

So please, keep the spirit of the Year of a Million Dreams alive on VMK, and spread the magic to more players.

I think then people would be logging on and off a lot to win so it would cause added server issues. VMK has enough of those already.

That is SOOOO the approach many vmk players would take!

But there probably is a way to work it, it would just take some "figurin''.

I think it would be awesome to extend the dreams in vmk, afterall, the real parks have extended The year of a million dreams through 2008. They even just recently came out with a new booklet to advertise the new dreams for 2008!http://www.2008disneydreamcatalog.com/

I didn't see a host all of dreams month, so chances of seeing one another time are probably slim. However, if there was some way for them to create a random gift giving, like if you go through a teleporter at a certain time, or play a certain game to get a dream, that would be totally awesome!!

I think that they could just implement the computer system that supposedly told them where to go and what to give.
It should be able to pick a time and place or person to give the room to.
And, the names of previous winners should be stored there so the system and/or person(s) couldn't pick the same name again.

In the case of picking the right place and time, a host/staff member could just pop into the room and award the person. And then pop out again real quick so they can't be bombarded too much.

OMG... I think that is a wonderful fantastic idea! And it would be a way to contuine the dreams of people just like in the real parks!! I love that room... it is truly truly a DISNEY room...and I love Disney...that is why I love it so much! I like sooooooooooo many others didn't win the room and would just love to have a chance to wine it!!

I think any of the ideas mentioned would be great! Just being able to put it into the winners inventory would so alwesome...could you just imagine seeint it there..along with that special message that we get when win someting would be so cool! So I hope that VMK will please consider this idea....it would truly be Where Disney Dreams Come True!!

Maybe they could consider something for January, after the Christmas stuff is done. Perhaps while they are working out the Card Game bugs.

I like the idea of not awarding the same people over and over again. Maybe even limit it to one dream a week...and make those things tradeable.



OT - PirateBell, I just noticed your countdown and what it is for. Jeff is my hero too. Your countdown clock is much more exciting than mine for obvious reasons. Tell him there is a huge (extended of course) family in Texas that prays his safe return and thanks him from the bottom of their hearts for his sacrifice.


Back to the topic....

Another thought, the hosts could do this so much more efficently if they could do it off-screen. Part of what slows them down are the people asking the same tired ol' questions. Can you accept my friend's request, can you trade me because I don't have inferno, how can I get a job as a VMK host, why can't I be a CL, etc, etc, etc. It would be a greater surprise, as mentioned, to get a message in your inbox from VMK and then search your inventory to see what was awarded.

I agree with Jellyrolls and some of the others on this thread - keep the dreams alive, but at a much more limited scale, particularly because so many out there were frustrated if they didn't get a shiny new hat or pin.

As for me, I had the most fun during dreams month that I've had in vmk for a while. I'm not sure if the VMK planners intended it or not, but a consequence of the dream giveaway was that huge numbers of lapsing or infrequent players came back into vmk to hang out for a bit. Even though this led to system slowdown and the proliferation of afk zombie statues (as I like to call them, myself included), I saw more old friends in dreams month than I have in the last year on vmk.

With dreams as an excuse to just hang out in a room and have fun (rather than going on impersonal, solitary quests or waiting in line as in other events), people made new friends, hung out with old vmk friends that they haven't seen in a while, and enjoy the conversation. I even saw Dis people hanging out on the corner at Mainstreet like the "good old days"! This is what drew me to vmk in the first place. It's a fun place to hang out with virtual friends. The games and quests and all that are merely fun diversions to me. I hate going into vmk and finding that nobody i know is on.

So having said that, maybe a scaled down version of dreams will get people to come on a bit more often. To all those that I renewed my friendship with, met for the first time, shared a joke or two with, and inundated with my vmk puns and dictionary dancing, I salute you! Glad I got to enjoy dreams month with you!
