My wife and I have been to Disney every year for the last 6 years, and we have always stayed off site. Our reasoning being that it is much cheaper and we are only in our rooms to shower and sleep.
In addition, we have looked at Disney Resorts on line (pictures, reviews, etc.) before booking an off site resort.

Well, this last trip (Oct. 04) has changed our minds in a big way!

We decided to have Dinner at 'Ohana in the Polynesion--wow! Nothing on any website can show the true beauty of the resort, it was shocking. After that, we decided to visit the other resorts during our stay, again, wayyyyy better than anything we looked at on the web. The whole time we visited the various resorts, the resort employees were also top notch, the pools are great, and the whole overall theming and feeling you get CANNOT BE BEAT!

Well, needless to say, we decided to book either the Coronoda Springs or AKL for our next trip in 3/06.

Another reason we decided to change, is due to the fact that the Disney Resorts are laid back and relaxing. All the off site resorts we have stayed at seem like just a hotel room. Now that we are getting older, it seems like we want to relax more instead of getting up at 6:00am to be in the front of the line at the parks, and the Disney Resorts look like they are perfect to sit back, have a drink, and relax.

:bounce: :bounce: That's great! You've painted a wonderul picture of Disney resorts. I'm really excited now!! June will be our first time going to WDW and we had the most awful, conflicting time trying to choose between offsite an onsite. Your post makes our decision to stay onsite seem like the *right* one! Thanks. :goodvibes

DebIreland,

Thank you.

I know you will enjoy staying on site, no matter what resort you chose.

I have to agree. :goodvibes

My DH, a non-Disney lover, was adamant that if our family was going to the World, we were going to stay on-site. The convenience of using WDW transportation alone was reason enough. My DH spends quite a while each day in his truck commuting to the office and to job sites. It was just wonderful to sit back and let someone else do the driving!

We chose WL for its queen size bed, bunks and reasonable prices for a deluxe. It was just the restful haven we needed after all the sensory overload of the crowds and parks.

It is worth the price in our opinion!

Enjoy your stay,
penny

It is a very rare person that stays on site and then decides it is not worth it. My neighbor's wife likes the challenge of making a vacation cheap. They are staying with relatives 45 minutes from the park. :earseek: THAT! Her husband wants to stay on site but he is overruled.

Staying on site adds so much more to the experience. The thought of driving 90 minutes round trip each day...ugh!

We were "off site people" until 3 years ago when our friends gave us two nights BWV after that we were converts! Then we ended up buying DVC at BWV! :cool1:

Our first two trips were off-site. On the 2nd trip, our parents visited some friends staying at FW. Next trip was on-site.

We went for the 1st time last year and stayed at Pop and I'm so glad we did because I knew if I could get DH there that I could get him to go moderate. Well it worked and we were actually going to split our stay between WL and Poly but got a better deal w/ POR and added dining. There is nothing that compares to the magic of Disney! We felt so stress free not worrying about driving from place to place but simply getting on a bus.

Be forewarned, once you stay on-site, there's no going back, but that's a good thing.

This is great, after staying off site twice we decided to go on site this year, I'm so glad you guys have reinforced my decision :cool1:

When we were dating my DH asked me if I had ever been to Disney World. He then asked me where I had stayed. He then told me that I had never really been to Disney and took me there for our honeymoon. :love2: We stayed at CBR and I have never stayed off-site since.

We prefer on-site to off. I wouldn't say that it's "on-site or nothing" for us, but close...we are lucky in that we have always been able to get either FL resident, AP, or SoG overflow, which helps make on-site more affordable.

HI! thanks for your input.
DH & I did 2 offsites before kids. Then he decided with kids we were going to stay onsite for convience. We have never gone back.
Recently my SIL was debating on or off site. I told her if she is going to stay off site do it now, because once she stays on site she will be ruined and never will want to stay off site again. After reading a previous thread about CBR I hope she wont' hate me, as that is where she is staying. :confused3

Since DH & i did not grow up going to Disney, we really didn't "get it" until 3yrs ago, when we gave the kids a trip to WDW as a Christmas gift. We "splurged" on our room at POR. Oh my! What a different experience it was. Just being surrounded by disney magic, the convenience of using the buses, the energy of the crowds. there is nothing like it.

We have been back twice since then, always to a Disney resort. My DH wuold rather not go at all if he has to stay off-site. He says half of what he's looking for is the ambience. :teeth:

Another devoted on-siter here. To me, there is no comparison to the onsite experience. You wake up Disney-fied, you go to sleep Disney-fied...and I'm pretty sure I stay Disney-fied while I am sleeping!
