An oh-so-suite Mexican Riviera TR! 3/20/11 Wonder-UPDATED 4/23- Day 6- more Cabo fun!

After returning to the port on the bus, the kids and I were REALLY hungry. I wanted to take them to an authentic Mexican restaurant (okay, at least as authentic as we were likely to find within walking distance of the marina in Cabo!). I wanted some Baja lobster!! Mr. Friendly headed back to the ship. So, the kids and I walked back down the main road until we got to this place:

The kids were impressed that I could order in Spanish. The things they learn about you! So I started naming things around in the restaurant, and explaining items on the menu. The Teenager ended up getting some coconut shrimp (YUM!), while the Tween and I split a lobster and shrimp plate. The kids got lemonade in these giant margarita glasses, while I got my favorite cerveza- Pacifico!

The lobster and shrimp were pretty good, and the price wasn't as cheap as I had hoped but not a ripoff either. We also got some guacamole. So good we ended up getting two orders!

After our VERY late "lunch" we started to walk back, when I saw a pedicab. Figuring this would be something fun to do, I bargained with the guy and got a ride back for all 3 of us for $7. :thumbsup2 It was fun!

We had a fabulous day! The tender ride back to the ship was quick. When we got back to the suite, we went for a swim and started to get ready for dinner. Pirate Night!

We are cruising on the Dream in June - our first Disney cruise (but not first cruise). We are so excited but I know that only having 4 nights is not going to be nearly long enough! We debated the longer MR cruise but wanted to see the new ship so bad it won out.

Maybe our next cruise will be MR and hope we meet some fun people like you! We would totally love hanging with you on your excursions - margaritas, wine, tequila and then lots of fun for the kids. :worship: Sounds like a group we would enjoy!!

Can't wait to read more about your trip!

I have finally caught back up!!! WOW I never would have guessed Cabo would be so much fun....

I'm soooo hoping the girls love the Dream in November...I could easily come up with a itinerary that left out of CA!!!!! :rotfl::goodvibes

Thanks for sharing all those pics! I loved them

Hope you enjoy the Dream! We are booked on it for next March and I'm wondering if I will love it the way I love the Wonder...! Maybe we'll meet up on another DCL cruise in the future.

Yeah, sorry I've been a slacker in uploading pics to Photobucket so I can post them here. :rolleyes1

HELL YEAH you need to do a California cruise!! We'd have a blast!

Okay... back to the TR!!

Our first Cabo day was Pirate Night! This was one time I was glad we had late dining. Everyone got ready. We are a group who ALL dress up! I did miss Captain Jack so that stunk. Fooey!

Very cool view, eh? Leaving Cabo was so gorgeous.

With views like these, there was no real reason to go to Pirate Night. We sent the kids up there though. The adults all enjoyed a bottle of wine on the verandah instead. :cloud9:

And YES I know we were not supposed to stay on the balcony... but time got away from us... and then we saw this:

Yeah.

Best. Cabin. Ever.

Day 6- Second Cabo port stop

After sailing away at sunset the night before, we were back in Cabo bright and early in the morning. This time, we were the only ship in port! We had breakfast from BBB- man, those back stairs up into the buffet came in handy! We mostly grabbed cereals, donuts, fruit, coffee, yogurt for breakfast.

Anyway, we met up with our friends and left the ship around 9. We had no wait for a tender. After disembarking, we walked through the marina and eventually struck up a deal with a water taxi to take us over to Medano Beach (and back). We paid $20 for all 7 of us both ways. :thumbsup2

After hopping off at the beach (you do get a little wet, so have flip flops you can carry in your hand), we walked down and stopped at Mango Deck. We only stopped there because the men were getting a bit thirsty! And, while it has a reputation as a party place, we were the only customers on the beach there. They did have a few folks inside, but we had the whole beachfront and loungers to ourselves. The boys immediately began to play, and we ordered a bucket o' beer (which was not a good deal, btw- and their service totally stunk! Sooooo slow!).

IMG_7473.jpg

Note the yacht in the bay. We heard various rumors from all sorts of people about whose yacht it is: Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, some rich golf course designer. Whoever owns it, there's a helicopter on it! A helicopter! Holy cow. And, we noticed they didn't get up and about till about 10:30 so they must have been having a nice evening the night before....:rolleyes1

The boys played and swam. Trainer and the Teenager made a good deal for some earrings by bargaining with the local vendors. We found that the vendors were plentiful, but they were polite and did not bother you again if you said no. Trainer actually enjoys the bargaining so she was looking forward to it. Eventually I ended up with a nice pair of hoops as well!

Later on Mango Deck had a balloon maker guy. There was no cost for the balloons- we just gave him a tip.

The weather was warm and sunny- it felt great! I got a bit of a tan. Trainer and the Comedian rented a seadoo for an hour and took the kids out to ride around the bay.

The water was fairly warm (at least to us Californians, who are used to a cold ocean) and sooo clear! Mr. Friendly and I had cruised to Cabo before on Princess, and had a great snorkeling experience here as well. Maybe we will repeat that at Christmas!

We had arranged with our water taxi to pick us back up. Mr. Friendly remembered at the last minute that we were talking about SHIP time not CABO time- and he ran back and made sure we were talking about the same time. Our captain (is that the right term? Driver doesn't seem to fit.) was prompt, and even gave us his card (!) so we could use him again in December. We stopped off at a little Mexican restaurant for a quick order of chips/salsa/guacamole/more beer before making that 12:30 tender. Trainer and I ran into the little market as well and I got a nice picture frame for my "Cabo picture" of the 4 of us on the 4x4 excursion. We made our tender (we did have to hustle!) and got back onboard. It was surprising how much we did fit in to such a short time. It was still a fun day and I don't know how much more of the beach the boys would have wanted, anyway. I was very skeptical about the "short" Cabo day but we did thoroughly enjoy ourselves. We were sad to go! But looking forward to being back on CHRISTMAS EVE!! Woohooo!

We spent a lot of time out on this balcony!

But wait... there's more!

IMG_7089400x600.jpg

The balcony continued through 2 more fully enclosed verandahs! It was huuuuge! In this picture I am standing inside one of them, taking a picture of the boys in the next one.

Just now found this report. We've stayed in 8602 three times, and I've looked over onto the balcony of 8600...and never once noticed that there was an opening at the end of the balcony. I wonder if they just fairly recently opened it up?
What a great spot to have....you could still be outside if it were raining!

We actually were- it was raining pretty good by the time we sailed away, so it was nice to watch it from our covered "bonus" verandahs! My friend had sailed in 8000 in November and we didn't notice the "bonus" then either- but might have just not noticed since it was a 3 night cruise and we didn't spend a ton of time on the verandah.

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful trip report Silly Little Pixie!

it sounds like you had the most wonderful time! :)

I am so excited, as we are staying in 8100, basically the same suite as yours on the opposite side of the ship and it just looks amazing!

We have also booked the mini jeep excursion, so I was so happy to see your photo's, as it looks like super fun! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the review! So glad to hear you were starboard. That's what we picked for our cruise (our first ever). I was hoping for similar views, though ours will be from a porthole window and not a ginormous verandah. Unless there is a good deal on an upgrade... ;)

Thanks for doing this TR! I've loved seeing a part of the world that is new to me - Mexico! Those deserted pristine coastal photos are breath-taking. I love the selection of excursions/outing you did:thumbsup2! And being the mother of a tween and a few teens at the moment, I give you a huge :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 for finding things that are good for all! Great that your tween had a buddy to hang with. Super!! Keep the reports coming:flower3:!

Great review. We will be on that cruise on 16 October. Just one question. Do you recall how much the skidoo cost? My boyfriend used to own one of those and I know he would love to hire one and have a ride around.

Thankyou

Do you mean the pedi-cab? It was $7. I will definitely do that again, really fun!

Thanks for the comments...this has dug this long-unfinished TR up!! I admit, it's been bugging me a bit that I never did COMPLETELY finish it. So, here goes!

After leaving Cabo on the second day, we had the concierge reception that afternoon. Of course being new to concierige, we weren't quite sure how it went. By late afternoon it was actually pretty chilly! And definitely windy. It was held in the back of Beach Blanket Buffett.
Here we are with Mike:

It was nice to chitchat...but we didn't enjoy it quite as much because we were cold! Funny how quickly the weather changed once we left Cabo.

Loving your trip report!!! My mom booked 8600 for our upcoming trip with my DD5 and DD3. Love seeing the pictures and getting excited about the accomodations. So looking forward to that balcony. :) Thanks for sharing.
