An interesting thing about the 18% tip for parties of 8 or more.

Just came back from the Poly where we stayed in the concierge building and noticed a strange occurance when we went to dinner.

We were a party of 10 and I knew we'd have the 18% tip added automatically.

The first time we went for dinner I handed the server our DDE card and then when she came back with the bill (which had the 18% included) Id give her my room card to charge the meal. The room card you get in concierge is yellow while the non-concierge is blue.

The next meal we had I decided to give both the DDE card and my room key together to save a bit of time. Well the check came back without the 18% on the bill. I didn't think much of it but just wrote in a tip.

The next meal I decided to just give the DDE card and the tip was inlcuded.

I thought it was funny that when I gave the DDE card alone the tip was included and when I gave both cards together it wasn't.

At our next 2 meals i gave both cards together to see what would happen and in both cases the tip wasn't included again.

I asked a server who wasn't ours if the tip should be on the bill. She saw the party size and said yes it is included. I said i don't see it listed. She looked at bill for me and said it should be listed but it wasn't.

At the other meal the waiter actually told me the tip wasn't on the bill when he gave me the bill to sign.

 That's weird. I wonder if it's a coincidence or if there's some voodoo with using your room keycard as well.

LOL! It sounds like the gold concierge room keys worked some magic:

The Invisible "Included" Tip. :rotfl2:

I found it interesting that when you showed your concierge Key to the World,
you had no tip included, too. I wonder if concierge guests have complained
in the past about the automatic tip and tip better when it's not included.

That certainly makes me wonder. :scratchin

Someone in our party said to me maybe they think you will tip better than 18% and therefore take off the automatic tip. I don't know if I
'd believe that but it certainly was strange. Im going to try the experiment again when we head to the GF next week.
