An eBay question about a dining room table...

My lawyers bills are officially through the roof. I'm already in the hole $6,500 and owe him more. We're trying to move to a new apartment in a month and the deposit and fees for that are outrageous as well. I'm working as much as possible to make extra money, but I can't work 24 hours a day.

I'm pretty much forced to sell my dining room table, this gorgeous cherry-wood 6 seater that I've had for about 3-4 years. It's been used...what....4 or 5 times maybe? It was originally about $1500 at Rooms To Go. How should I go about selling this? It's a HUGE and very heavy table...should this be listed as a local pick up only? What should I start the bidding at? And what (if any) reserve should I set it at?

It's really depressing that I'm down to selling off my personal belongings (what am I talking about? all of my stuff is pretty much gone now anyways), but whatever I have to do to keep my daughter, I will.

Any suggestions on how to sell this table would be VERY VERY VERY much appreciated right now. Thank you.

Before you try ebay you might want to place an ad in the paper. The simple fact that shipping is next to impossible. With something as large as that, placing an ad may give you a better shot at selling it. Then if that doesn't work look into ebay.

By the way I really hope that everything works out! :D

First of all I want to say I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this, Steph... from one single Mom to another, hang in there!

I did a search and found this completed bid on eBay that's not too far from you (Winter Haven) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20484&item=4310481016&rd=1 that required local pick up. Most, except the ones being handled by the stores, seem to ask for that. I don't think you'd want to disassemble it and ship it off, I know I wouldn't!

Good luck, I know it will work out in the end.

First, so sorry about your situation.

If you decide to sell on e-bay I would list local pick-up only.

The plus to listing it on e-bay is that you only have to deal with one buyer rather than having all kinds of calls from people who respond to an add and want to come by to see it - plus the price it ends at will be the price you get (minus e-bay fees of course) but you won't have folks haggling trying to get you to come down on your price.

You are in a large area so should get some pretty good exposure even with local pick-up.

Good Luck!
