An Earnest Request To Dial Back On The Acronyms Just A Bit, Mmmkay?

You can always ask if you don't know an acronym. You don't need to use them. Acronyms are absolutely everywhere and generally the norm in online forums. I think the DOD comment is humorous because I once was at a dinner with a bunch of army (current and ex)people, acronyms were flying, and I would ask, and ask, but then just tuned out. Message boards are a bit easier to navigate. Heck, sometimes i still ask about acronyms.

The wonderful thing is being able to talk to your spouse about an upcoming trip in acronyms and the kids have no clue you are talking about Disney at all. :)

And don't we pretty much all talk to our spouses in acronyms/abbreviations/references all the time?

I mean, I almost think that's how I define love. Love is meeting the person who understands you.
Love is telling a whole story with just one word, look or phrase.

Love is building upon that understanding.

In this, the DIS is no different from any other culture or subculture. I may not agree with some posters, but I always have at least a little respect for DISers who share the DIS language. Well, most of them. :)

I understand most of the initials and acronyms are shorthand for what would be said or written in full.

But, in real life, does any one ever say Dear Son or Darling Son or Disney Son?

On board with this. This is the one thing I really find annoying for some reason. Like just type out your husband, my daughter, my son. Alas to each their own :confused3

In real life I'm called Dopey Husband or far worse words starting with D...

I agree with the OP. The acronyms really confuse me. Recently I was reading a thread about BWI. I had no idea what anyone was talking about. I had to Google "disney bwi" to realize they were all talking about Boardwalk Inn.
