Saw in today's paper that there is a 5 yr old living here who has the same type of dwarfism that Amy Roloff has. The child's parents contacted Amy to come and speak to the school to raise awareness, etc. She will also speak to the community in the evening.

The family is now raising funds to pay for the visit. $7,000. Wow.

It is scheduled for March 2010.

Are you saying she is charging 7,000 to come and speak at the school. Or the family is hoping to raise that much from her speaking>

According to the article, the $7,000 is her fee.

I guess I'm really shocked that she would charge that much. That is really disappointing to me

Why, President Clinton charges $30,000.

People make pretty good money, going on speaking engagements around the country, especially to schools and colleges.

I know that people do this for a living but I never image her asking such a high amount to a family of a child.

Thats cheap for a celeb. speaker. Dont forget she needs to pay flights, hotel, meals, security, logistics etc..etc.. and dont forget her 2 oldest just started college with 2 more right behind them.

Amy is great! I wish I lived nearby!

Well Kate Gosselin has certainly had no problems charging for speaking engagements - as well as traveling expenses, accomodations, special transportation to and from the venue, special food and drink items while she's speaking, etc..:confused3

I know she has a family to support. I hope the school will help out with the family with the cost.

I would like to see her as well

She may require some of her expenses in addition to the fee. I work for an arts organization, and it would be a very rare case for a performer not to require hotel accomodations.

Hi Randi:

I know that you live pretty close to where I live. Do you have any details on this speaking engagement? I think I would like to see Amy in person. :)

P.S. I don't think that $7k is an outrageous fee; she'll be traveling across the country, and I think that the school probably needs to secure the funds for her fee beforehand, but then hopefully recoup some or all of it by charging those who go to see her.

Amy's type of dwarfism is the most common, from what I understand. One of my best friends from childhood has a 21 year old DD with this same type.

I was wondering if Amy's was the same dwarfism as Matt's. Matt seems to be going downhill really fast, unless TLC just wants to promote it that way. When the season started, his Dr. told him, he would need surgery within 6 months. that was last Fall. Since then, he went to the Caribbean, Hawaii, went down hill skiing and the last show was the Dude Ranch in CO. Nothing has been said if he had surgery within the last year.
