Amy sweetie - I am sorry that maybe you are not quite comfortable with your rings. For what it's worth, I think they look beautiful, but can understand about the practicalities!!!
I am so sorry that you are going through all this uncertainty with your parents!!! I really hope that it all works out well and they are able to come!!! I understand where you are coming from as to not being able to wait long!!! As a fellow DVC owner, I see your dilemma with not wanting to waste the points!!!
You certainly have had a rocky road whilst planning this VR haven't you? Let's hope this is the last little set-back!!!!

Yeah, we returned the rings over the weekend. I'm a little bummed, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that big a deal. I know we'll find something we like.

On the larger scale of bummer things, my mom informed me today that they might not be able to come to our vow renewal. There's a real possibility that, for the first time in his life, my dad might get laid off. Jeff and I have been through it more times than I can count, but my parents have no idea how to deal with the situation. They're old enough to retire, but not in a position to be able to do so. Plus, I can't imagine my parents home together all day.

Anyway, my mom is worried they won't have enough money to come to Florida in October. We're providing them with a 1-bdrm villa at BLT, they were going to drive down, and they were only planning on visiting Epcot once and then spend a lot of the rest of the time with my brother's family (they live near WDW), so their expenses were going to be low to begin with, but that may still be too much for them. The worst part is, we really can't wait long for them to decide because if they aren't coming, I need to try to rent out that reservation. We really can't afford to just lose a year's worth of DVC points. Then again, I hate to take away the option for them to come just in case by the time October rolls around they might be in a position to do so.

Ugh.

Oh, this really stinks. It is about time that you got a break. I hope that your parents will be able to make it. I do understand your problem about the DVC points, but I would hold off making the decision as long as I could. BLT is still a very popular resort and you should hopefully have no trouble renting out the reservation even at relatively short notice. I am not close to my parents, but if I was not having them there on my special day would break my heart.

i'm sorry about your rings... but it is good that you made the decision now so you can get something better for you!!

i feel bad about your parents you're right about how they would handle if differently. we handled bad stuff ourselves, but when my stepmom's boss retired and left her out in the cold--it was way worse on her because she didn't know what to do with herself and didn't know how to go on. hopefully it all works out. fingers crossed and lots of prayers!

as far as the dvc points go... that is a rough situation. we go at least twice per year, so if you ever find yourself in a bind to rent them quick... you can always message me. we're taking the money we make from the wedding for our dvc down payment hopefully we'll be owners by early 2013!!

And I'm sorry about your parents telling you they may not be able to come for your VR. I totally understand about the DVC points; same thing happened with us and DH's dad, step-mom and uncle. We rented 3 rooms for them for 3 nights (a studio for each FIL & step-MIL - b/c they "don't get along", and a 2-bedroom for uncle, aunt, and their son), we were even going to pay for the dining plan for them - all they had to worry about was getting to Disney and tickets to the park if they wanted to go. A month before they said they all couldn't make it. So I ended up canceling the rooms and keeping the points. I had no intentions of loosing all those points. But I totally understand you want them to be there too. I hope it works out in the end!

Thanks, Jilian. I really hope so, too. My dad's a resourceful guy and he has a lot of contacts in his industry, so I'm really hoping he can find something that will help them, even if it's not full time.

Those are lovely rings, Corinna! Thanks for having a look! I'm afraid the ladies' ring would be too skinny for my chubby fingers, though. I'm going to show Jeff the man's ring, though ... I'm sure I could find something to coordinate easily enough!

And I'm honestly not super-close to my parents either, but we're always there for each other and it would feel so odd to not have them at the VR.

Yikes! That's a lot of points you had to cancel for! We're going to hold off as long as possible, but the points for their villa are borrowed points, so they wouldn't go back to the original use year, but maybe I could still rent them before next September. If we look at it that way, we'd have til about a month before the trip before we'd have to make a final decision.

I appreciate everyone's good wishes and support ... I really want things to start looking up for this VR!

Not a whole lot happening planning-wise, but I've spent the last few days working on a few little projects for the VR. A small basket for our programs, a little box to hold our rings, the boys' boutonnieres, etc. I've also got a couple of photos of goodies I've gotten from Etsy!

Since we're not really having any type of reception other than lunch at Kona, I'm throwing all my efforts at the ceremony and the cake-cutting. I've made up a new cake topper that I am in LOVE with! I sent the monogram that Dolly made for us to an Etsy seller who cut it out in acrylic for us. Then I added the Swarovski crystals to it in our colors:

Then I wanted something really special for our cake-cutting, so I purchased these little beauties:

The photo was taken by the seller; I haven't gotten them yet, but they're in the mail. I can hardly wait to see them in person!

And then lastly, I remembered I hadn't posted a photo of my necklace yet. There's also an identical matching bracelet:

Mindyjoy, the topper is from a seller called AffordableCakeTopper. I used their custom option and they cut the topper from silver mirrored acrylic. Their Etsy shop says on vacation, but it looks like you can also order from their website: www.DazzleMeElegant.com I bought mine plain and added the crystals myself, but I believe they also offer toppers completely covered in crystals if you want. HTH!
