Amusing Lunchtime Bad Sales Clerk Story

Okay...so my friend and I just got back from a frightening shopping experience during lunch in Downtown Boston.

We were in a large department store and my friend had two items to buy and so we got up to the counter and the woman behind the counter explains that the items are buy 2 get one free. So my friend and I go back to where they are (about 20 feet away from the cashier) to get the third one. As we are coming back, we notice that the cashier has left the cashier station and is heading our way.

We are confused as to why she is leaving the station midsale, esp.. since there was another woman in line behind us.

Anyway, we get back and see that she has not waited on the woman behind us yet either. Eventually the cashier comes back and points out to my friend that she has the wrong size (apparently the cashier is assuming she knows what size my friend wears AND that she's buying for herself). The cashier quite loudly exclaims , "I don't think you wear a small" to my friend (and the rest of the line) and my friend and I again leave to go get a different size.

AGAIN the cashier follows us, despite my friend asking her to stay behind and ring up the other lady. This time she walks back with us and there is another cashier at the station voiding my friends sale because the OTHER woman behind us in line had still not been waited on. So then the other woman gets snippy (I don't blame her) with the cashier too. Finally, after the cashier explaining to the other cashier that she needs to finish this sale, we were free to go.

First of all, I know that there are bad retail employees everywhere but this woman was just so clueless! Second, what sort of salesperson announces a size and proclaims that it's wrong. In this case, it was the wrong size my friend grabbed by mistake, but I mean, to loudly proclaim that a person "isn't a size ___ " in front of other customers?!?

Anyway, the whole ordeal made us get back a few minutes late from lunch but at least we have a funny story to tell.

Oh and we were almost assaulted by a Chanel #5 sprayer on the way out!

Wow, that is really bizarre. Maybe she won't last very long as an employee! It almost sounds like enough to make you not want go back in there.

We had a similar experience once at Sear's, dut our's was funny. Me and DW had taken our DD to get some new clothes, she was about 15 at the time. Our DD found a pair of pants that she really liked. When we went to the cashier she did the same thing. Said fairly loudly that the pants were the wrong size. My daughter said no that is the right size. The cashier then said " Well they might be the right size after all, but they are maternity pants." We all got a great laugh out of it.

By the way, dispite what was said by this cashier at Sear's , it was all said in a tone of voice and a facial expression that indicated she was not being nasty just having some fun with us.

I think her twin sister waited on me once.

My baby was just three days old. I didn't fit into my pre-maternity clothes but figured I could pick up a pair of pants in a larger size but NOT maternity. I picked out a pair, tried them on and went to pay. She looked at me, looked at them and told me they were nice - but had I looked at this other style?

Then she proceeded to direct me to the maternity rounder!!!

Sheesh - I thought I was looking pretty good. Much better than I had a few days earlier



Good thing my DH was there to direct me to a chair to wait while HE paid and suggested she not make assumptions and keep her suggestions to herself unless asked!
