Hi all, we're seeking info on using Amtrak to travel to WDW. I see per the Amtrak site there are stations at Kissimmee and Orlando. Which is more convenient to WDW? Are there public transportation options to WDW from the train station, or would a taxi be necessary? The train is scheduled to arrive Orlando about 10:15 am.

Thanks!!

You'll need a taxi or limo.

The Kissimmee station is closer to WDW.

We use the Amtrak train all the time....We get off the train at Orlando...plenty of limos waiting...around 30.oo dollars to WDW.
When we head home we get on the train at Kissimmee...You beat the crowd in Orlando. Of course when you book...you do one way TO Orlando and one way FROM Kissimmee to Your home.
The price ends up the same. Don't forget...AAA discount or senior discount.

Public transportation (Lynx bus) is available from Orlando or Kissimmee (which is slightly closer to WDW), but I'd go with a taxi or limo service. Lynx will drop you at the Transportation & Ticket Center or Downtown Disney (West Side stop), from which you still have to reach your WDW resort, and Disney buses supposedly prohibit luggage.

If you are really watching the budget, you could also take Lynx from the train station to the TTC or West Side in Disney, then get a cab from there to your nearby resort.

that is a good idea. I would not of thought of that. I know I have seen larger parties get split up since seats are assigned as you board.

I take Amtrak from New York to WDW alot. I like to get off at Orlando because there is an additional train time of 30 minutes to Kissimee. I have used Kissimee once and it is a nice little station. I like rockydek's idea of using Kisimee on the way home, and I may do that on my next trip. At Orlando there are taxis waiting for the train to arrive. There is also a Hertz car rental kiosk there. I use a car service to get to and from WDW. :earsboy:

We use Amtrack all the time and have a big party (8-10) and never get split up. Key is to buy all the tickets together AND get to station early enough so they identify you as a group and you board first. :goodvibes

We get sleepers...We are coming from Massachusetts.
Also...FYI..The earlier you book..The better rate you get.... You can book 11 months in advance.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the tips. We're booking tonight to Kissimmee!

A friend who lives in St. Cloud is going to pick us up at the station and deliver us back for our departure, so that's going to work out well.

We did look at the Lynx bus website and there's a stop very near the train depot that will take you to a point where you can change to a bus headed to WDW's TTC, for just $2/person.

I've looked at Amtrak's cancellation policies - it looks like there's no penalty to change your ticket if needed, you just have to use the ticket within a year? Any insight into that?

I believe as long as you dont get hard copies printed you can make changes and cancel without penalty.

We took the train to Kissimmee was not bad. It was less then a half hour to WDW. There are plenty of cabs and car services waiting there. We booked one of the car services that people recommended and they never showed up. It's a small station and less hectic then Orlando.

Have a good trip
:dance3:
