Were thinking of taking the train from Trenton, NJ to Kissimmee, FL. The train name from Amtrak is 91 Silver Star or the 97 Silver Meteor. Does anyone know if they have outlets at the seats? Also do they have internet access? And is it better to go into Orlando or Kissimmee?

Though I've never personally taken the train, we did investigate using that very route for my daughter who goes to college in Georgia.

My research told me that outlets were only available in selected areas of coach, and you would need to purchase the business class of seat to guarantee an outlet.

I don't know about internet access through Amtrak. When my sister took the train from DC to Orlando a few years ago she had to use her own wireless air card to get the internet.

Outlets cannot be guaranteed, though your chances are very good; Their avalibility depends on whether and when the car has been refurbished, and not all coaches have been. There is no business class service on the Florida trains - just coach and first-class (sleeper), with sleeper being really the only way to absolutely, positively guarantee personal use of an outlet. Even if you happen to end up in a car without outlets, though, you can still generally use the outlets in the lounge to recharge devices.

There is no wifi or other internet access yet available. It's coming, but don't hold your breath...

Kissimmee is somewhat closer to WDW destinations than Orlando, but you stop in Orlando first (southbound), and it is the larger station.

I've done Trenton to Orlando twice on the Silvers..once in coach and once in a sleeper. We're booking a sleeper again for next fall. We got off in Orlando and had a car service pick us up there. It's another 25 min or so to Kissimee and Orlando is a longer stop. We were ready to get off the train and on our way to Disney. It took about 25-30 mins from Orlando to Disney.

When I went coach, there were two outlets at every seat. We loved the sleeper this last trip and would probably never go coach again. Having our own bathroom and meals included was really nice.

If you travel by train, sign up for Amtrak's guest rewards program to start getting points to redeem for free travel. We also have an Amtrak credit card to earn points. We traveled for free last year and will do so again this fall.
