I am just amazed at the amount of time and mega mega amounts of money spent on Presidential elections. I think it is sad that the current President probably spends far too much time on the campaign trail and far too much time strategizing and far too little time doing his job. I'm not talking specifically of Bush (who I support) but of any current President seeking re-election.

I think the President (any) has to be able to do both effectively. I don't think though that he spends all that much time "hands on" the campaign. On the other hand, I believe it's wrong for a sitting elected official to miss important votes (or other duties) while they're on the campaign trail. I highly doubt that the President misses anything he's required to do but he doesn't need to be in the oval office to do his job. Someone like Kerry does need to be in the Senate chamber to cast a vote or he misses it. Big difference IMO.
