I am trying to decide if the dining plan will be the best deal for us in 2008 Does anyone know the tax on meals, I can't find it anywhere? Thanks.

I was just about to post the same question...somewhere I've got an old dining receipt, but i was hoping that someone knows off the top of their head.

I do know the following - the tax on most resorts is 12.5%. It used to be 11.5%. The only exception is the All-Stars, where the tax rate is 13% (They are in a different county. I noted that the tax on the dining plan for us is also 12.5% - I'm guessing that if you are at an All-Star resort that would be 13%.

I'm pretty sure the Orlando restaurant tax is higher than regular sales tax. (which I think is like 6.5% or 7%).

The state sales tax is 6%

Osceola County sales tax is 7%;Orange is 6.5%

Is there tax on the $37.95 per person dining plan amouont? I didn't remember that there was but not sure.

So if I am at the resort (ASMu), the tax on food is 13%. The tax on food at other resorts is 12.5%. If I am at a park the tax on food is 7%. Is this right?

I am just wondering, because I am starting to decide what each person in my party we will be eating. I want to figure out how much each meal will cost. I want to figure out how much I will be spending in tips, but I need to figure in the tax first. There will be six of us so I know it is automatically 18% gratuity, but I need to know how to figure in tax, so I know how much total amount will be.

Except that the if you get the DDP, you are not paying for 'dining' as an individual item, It's part of a 'vacation package' so I'm fairly certain that your vacation package is taxed at the 12.5% 0r 13% rate.

You don't need to tip on the taxed amount, you can tip on the bill pre-tax. If you are assessed an automatic gratuity, the amount taxed is on the pre-tax bill.

Most of WDW is in Orange county, so mostly your food tax will be 6.5% and a bill will look like this (with automatic gratuity)

$100 - Food
$18 - Gratuity
$6.50 - Tax
$124.50 - Total

If you are using the DDP, you will owe them $18.

I don't think so. If you price out room only, add the cost of tickets only and then add the cost of the DDP together, you get the cost of most packages (w/o any discount deals or incentives or codes.) There's NO tax charged on the DDP cost of $37.99/A and $9.99/C per night of your trip, certainly not 12-13%!

Nope.
While any travel package's price will not be broken down by the seller into individual components, Disney's packages actually work out to (for example)
Four nights' room at All Star Movies in Value season: $81 per night plus 7% sales tax plus 6% room tax;
Four day park hopper: $257 plus 6.5% sales tax;
Four nights Disney Dining Plan: $37.99 per night, inclusive.
