AMEX canceling companion certificates what other cc offer these?

The Southwest card right now is running a 50K miles incentive if you apply and spend $2K in the first three months. The fee for the card is $69 and you get 3K point s after that on your anniversary date. You accrue more points based on spending. Not sure if this is something you are looking for. For us, it costs around 12K in points to fly to Orlando so I just got all four of our flights covered for our next trip.

Not sure of other cards offering companion fares, sorry.

We don't have Southwest here (Montana) unfortunately. Someday maybe. Guess we are still in the sticks. :)

never used my companion certificate. my renewal date was last september can i use my companion certificate to book a flight for next september? just curious how far out you can use it or if it expires during your renewal year....

I think it would have to be before your renewal date.

If you log into your Delta account, there is a blue box "Go to My Delta" on the My Delta tab. Once you click on this, it should show you in the upper right corner the number of your certificates. Click on this and it will tell you the expiration date.

I have mixed feelings about the Companion ticket. We find them incredible difficult to use. We have had several expire because we couldn't use them and didn't know anyone that could use them.

I searched and searched and couldn't find any information on the companion certificate being cancelled. This morning I received an email from American Express with my companion certificate information. So apparently it's not the case for all AMEX cards. :cheer2:

I've had the delta card for close to 10 years now, and I was finally able to use the companion ticket for the first time last year.

Which card do you have?

I think they need to reword their emails, I just used my certifcate on Monday and got this email yesterday...

Congratulations.

You've redeemed your annual Companion Certificate. With additional flight options and the flexibility to redeem your Companion Certificate online, your Card is more valuable than ever before. Plus, each year of your Cardmembership, we'll thank you with another Companion Certificate.

And to drag up an old thread, I just got a letter in the mail yesterday stating...It took them a long time to correct their mistake.

We are writing because we mistakenly sent you an email when you redeemed your Delta Companion Certificate. The email incorrectly stated you would receive a Companion Certificate next year. However, as stated in your November Cardmember Legal Disclosure, the Companion Certificate will no longer be awarded. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

I'm flying with my parents and daughter next month and then I plan on canceling my AMEX... we used our certificate every year and it was one of the reasons I had the card.

Then again thinking this out loud, both DD and I have over 100,000 in miles so maybe I should book a couple of trips and then cancel.

Very unlikely that you would lose miles that you've earned just for cancelling the card. It only happens when 'churners' (those who apply frequently for cards just for miles and cancel soon after) are identified, and even that is rare.

You've earned the miles, so you get to keep them.

You definitely get to keep the Delta Miles, but one other perk, I wanted to mention, especially since you have that many miles, is if you cancel the Delta Amex, you lose the pay with miles option for Delta flights. My husband and I have gotten tons of use from this perk, to use 10,000 miles to knock $100 off a ticket, 20,000 miles to knock off $200 etc. Might be worth upgrading to Platinum, also with Platinum its companion flies free not $100 as with the gold card.

I have delta amex and I've never been able to use the companion ticket. I can only travel certain times because of kids schedules. Everytime I try they are always blocked out at the times I can travel. So no loss for me.

Dragging up an old thread. I cancelled my DH Amex card last week. Tonight I get this email...what the heck? It does say it will be the last one, but I might have kept the card open had I known we would get this.
