American Idol - What A Waste Of An Hour!

I feel that Simon meant Josh but he could have meant Clay also. I posted this on another thread but I think that he is disgusted with Clay. Clay has this wonderful voice and won't step out of the box and take a chance. He just sings the same all the time.

I was thinking the same thing.

I think that Josh is way better than his last performance indicates but he needs to really step it up and shine now. I also think that Simon is too grumpy to be taken seriously even if he is amusing. Clay is talented IMO and consistency can be a good thing.

The results show is way too long. They need to run it for 1/2 an hour. As for stringing people along last night, that time was already committed to this show but maybe they could have announced the decision and then had the performers each sing or something?

I couldn't believe it was a non-elimination round!! I'm not a Carmen fan and to have her close to being gone and then get it taken away from me really annoyed me! LOL!
I did see Simon's face and boy did he look PO'd! Now with the votes being carried over all the Carmen and Trenyce fans are going to flood the lines with their votes no matter if the others deserve the votes. This is just ridiculous.

What was that extremely cruel comment from Simon about? "Someone sitting over there on the couch should be in gone this week and he knows who he is." Come on - I think he was talking about Josh too, but that is pretty harsh based upon one bad performance in a genre that's not his natural one.

I totally agree!!!!!

I really like Josh, based on previous weeks. I'm the first one to say that he was NOT GOOD this week, but I voted for him based on his previous performances. Disco is just not his "cup of tea".

And as far as a wasted hour - I think it's bad enough that they try and stretch it into an hour show as is, let alone pull that stunt on us last night.

I TOTALLY agree. What a waste. Few Observations from last night, see what you think:

1. The first 30 minutes seemed to be the "Ryan Seacrest Hour"; I am wondering if he was given some time on a few of these shows to push himself so that his 15 minutes of fame don't end with the last show. I thought the questions were tacky and obviously rehearsed. Simon was the only one that didn't sink to their level--I loved that he wouldn't answer the question !! I get less and less impressed with the host each show.

2. Simon either didn't know the protocol before-hand that was going to be used or he is another good actor (I'm thinking it's the latter). How else would the camera know to be on him when the voting was announced....

3. By carrying over the votes into next week, they've just corrupted the entire concept of each show being a separate voting opportunity for each contestant. We know what the 3 bottom feeders will do with votes; but it also bothers me that the top vote getters this week could somewhat "coast" next week without alot of worries.

4. I did LOVE the making of their "Proud to be an American" CD, though. It brought tears to my eyes. As a group, these guys can sing the roof off !!

Sure hope next week is better all way around. I thought the 2 shows this week were terribly weak and confusing.

Unfortunately Fox KNOWS that they will get an audience for their "Ryan Seacrest FILL-a-thon" therefore they're able to sell zillions of dollars of advertising. American Idol is their highest rated show and they know they can sell it.

And guess what, no matter how amateurish the first half hour is, the audience will hang in there till the last half hour...... it's like the pre and post show games in the Superbowl!

Sorry, this is my job.

They need to find a way to entertain without insulting, though. I think they take their audience for granted and that is an insult.

Cuz, I couldn't agree more about the "gay" innuendo crap. It's so high school and I'm sure it has offended some viewers.... :(

One other comment about last night's show, I'm a little tired of the whole junior-high locker room "You're gay!" "No, YOU'RE gay!" banter. Shut up. Using "gay" as an insult is just enough to make me want to turn off the TV, how condescending, and what does that teach our children about diversity?

Snoopy, I was thinking the same thing last night. It was awful.

Did anyone notice that Kimberly was not in the studio when they were recording last night? anyone know where she was?

gemmie.. I was wondering where KimL was too during the studio time??

And I completely agree with doing away with the "gay taunting" good grief!!!

I was stunned by the 'bottom 3'.. never would have thought those three deserved to be there this week..especially after the dismal performances at Disco night... poor Josh did look like he was gonna cry when they said he had made it thru to the next round. I think he is very torn about being in LA or being in Iraq with is unit.

and I have to say that I have thought that Kimberly C had a chance of making it to the final 3 but dang her attitude really bugged me last night.. did ya see right at the end of the show where she jumped up onto Reuben?? no one else was doing anything like that so what is up with that?

I don't think Josh's unit is in Iraq. The last I heard is that they are on 24-hours notice. Did I miss something? He's in a support unit that's not even expected to be deployed.

As an aside, he does seem very upset about something. Maybe he is hearing some of the negative things about being on AI instead of with his unit.

I was P O'd too! But, thanks to these boards, I had a feeling they were going to do this, but I fell they should have went ahead and VOTED some one OFF!! Wouldn't it be funny, if next week its the same 3? I actually was UPSET about Kmberly LOCKE being there, she is the MOST talented of any of the girls there. Trenyce is LOSING her voice, and cannot stay grounded, and Carmen is STILL YODELING!!! Acck!

Previous posters have already summed up my comments on last night's episode, but for those of you who were wondering where Kim L. was when they were recording "God Bless the U.S.A" - I heard on another message board that she had strep throat when the recording occurred. It happened sometime before last Wednesday since Julia was still there - not sure when.

Okay I am mainly answering myself here but I was wondering why Joshua seemed so upset.

This is courtesy of www.joshgracin.com

All things considered? What do I mean by that? Last night, Brenda Gracin (his mother) paid JG.COM a visit and left a few posts in the joshBOX as MomG. This is what she had to say...

MomG: First, Josh's daughter Briana was taken to the hospital very ill.
MomG: Me, Josh's mom also has pneumonia and I was out there with them last week.
MomG: So, when Randy asked Josh about being sick, it was fact.
MomG: Sometimes I honestly don't get the judges. But Josh was a trooper so I'm proud.
MomG: No, Josh is sick, although I don't imagine that all the stories about his deployment and the fact that fellow Marines are dying are helping.

Take that and digest it as you wish. So as I said before, all things considered (throwing in the fact that disco is horrid), Josh did very well! I hope this fact is recognized and people picked up on it last night. I honestly don't think Josh will be leaving tonight. I know it's a total toss up and anything can happen on this show, so I'm not going to say "Josh definitely isn't leaving," but if his fans are as loyal as I think they are, he is staying.

Not really clear but maybe some insight.

i gave up after seeing that Clay was safe for another week

Why in the world is the results show an hour long anyway?!!!!

Last summer, AI did not have any competition in the ratings. This year, they've been up against popular reality shows like Survivor and The Bachelor. Also, don't forget the huge bucks advertisers must be paying for commercials . Pretty much sums it all up. I only watch the last 15 minutes now.:D Most of the group songs are horrible and I can't stand that awful question and answer time.

Snoopy, I agree with you about the "gay" comments and jokes. For some reason, it's still ok to make fun of homosexuals and overweight people on tv.

FOJMO I felt the same way. I do enjoy the show, but for heaven's sake they ask for a big time commitment from fans. How about those two hour specials followed by one hour "vote results" shows??? What other tv show is on for 2 or 3 hours per week????

And all I can say is if Kimberly Locke and Treynce (not a huge fan of Carmen) are in the bottom 3, but Ricky and Josh are not, I have to wonder what America is smoking. The two ladies far outweigh the two men as far as talent and stage presence, imo.

I totally agree. I'm not a huge Trenyce fan, but she (as well as Carmen and Kimberly) definately blow Josh and Rickey away. I'm just hoping that next week one of those two will be voted off, although I doubt it. Ryan had said that all of this week's votes will be carried over to next week, and it will be the total of those two scores will determine who will make it to the next round. I love AI, but last night was definately a waste of time.

Also agree it was a wasted hour - and the bottom 3! I thought Kimberly L and Trenyce blew everyone else away Tuesday night. Josh and Ricky were awful - Carmen - who knows I don't get Simon's thing with her.

I think the revelation of Trenyce's felony conviction (revealed last week) may be the reason for some lost votes. But she and Kimberly L still did not belong in the bottom 3.

LIDisneyFan:
Carmen was Simon's pick for the final contestants--I think it was called the "wild card" and each judge got to pick one. Ever since then, he's been building a case for her each show. I think it REALLY got to him that she was in the bottom 3 this week.

that is also why Randy goes crazy with Kim C--she was his pick.

Just noticed you are a WTC survivor--God Bless You !!

I heard Paula say on Entertainment Tonight yesterday that next week was all number one hits. Not sure if the music will be all one genre or if it's number one hits of all different types of music. Sure hope it's better than last week!! ;)
