I took a bunch of notes on the concert. Here you go if you're interested.
Song List
Charles-not sure of title of song but it's hip hop and it has a line like "Do I Do What I Do" in it....C; just okay
Julia-Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful"'; sang it from a couch that rose up through the stage; B; good song but I'm not too fond of Julia
Ricky-Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel"; A; very energetic and I like Ricky's voice; he also had a hot guy as a backup dancer; He said Hercules, Hercules (of course) at one point after he had performed
Kim C.-Stacy Enrico's (spelling?) "I'm Stuck On You"; A; again great energy; thanked audience for participation and for making signs
Carmen-Shania Twain's "Can Only Go Up"; C; good voice but didn't do any dancing at all
Trenyce-"Proud Mary"; A+; she has a beautiful voice that I didn't really notice during the show
Kim L.-"Band of Gold"; A+; one of my favorites and I love her confidence; while the other girls were prancing around in tight clothes showing off their figures (which they have every right to do and they do have nice figures) Kim seemed very happy with her curvier self which I didn't notice during the show; I honestly thought that in that way, she would probably make a great role model; I'm not really any heavier than she is, but I definitely don't have the confidence she has; I also noticed that one of the female dancers definitely wasn't the twig that a lot of dancers are
Clay-"This Is The Night"; A++; perfect; I kind of started daydreaming during it, though
Ruben-Luther Vandross's "Superstar"; A; he does have a really good voice even though he's not one of my favorites because he doesn't seem to have the other aspects of performance down
Ruben-"A Thousand Kisses"; A+; I liked this song
Intermission
Charles, Clay, Ricky, Ruben-started out singing "The Lady Is A Tramp", then joined by the girls who were singing "Bootylicious"; the girls took the stage over for a while and then the whole group finished the songs together
Clay and Ruben standing together on stage had a bunch of underwear and bras thrown at them and Clay picked them all up while Ruben made a big joke out of how they used to give everything that was given to them to a childrens' hospital but they couldn't use these things at the hospital, they then talked about Ruben's video and asked who had seen Clay's video-a lot of people said that they had....turns out Clay's video isn't out yet, they finished with a mock fight over a girl and singing "The Girl Is Mine" in a comical way
Kim L-"Inseparable"; A+; beautiful song
All-70's Medley; C
People started throwing food on the stage (don't ask me why); first they threw a pack of Oreos which Clay said must have been for Kim C. since he's allergic to chocolate, then a box of macaroni and cheese which Clay claimed and then a bag with a Krispy Kreme donut in it-at first Kim C. got it but then Clay told her he'd trade the mac 'n cheese for it....he then ate the donut on stage
Ruben-song off his new album that was written by someone from Richmond; F; I was actually embarrassed for him after he sang this song
Ricky & Charles-"Let's Go Crazy";C
Carmen-"Let's Hear It For The Boy";A+
Clay-(Disney connection comes in here)"Can You Feel the Love Tonight"-A+++;probably my favorite Disney love song sung beautifully by Clay....what else can I say; easily my favorite performance of the night
Kim L.-Somewhere Over The Rainbow; A+; the part where she held the notes at the end was especially good but the whole song was beautiful
Girls-Some Motorcyle song;D; nondescript
Julia & Ricky-(another Disney connection)"If I Never Knew You" from Pocahontas; A++; they did a beautiful job
Trenyce-"I Have Nothing"; A+; I started daydreaming again because it perfectly describes how I feel about Roger
Girls-"I'm Every Woman";C
Kim L. & Ruben-"Best Things In Life Are Free"; A; I liked the way their voices harmonized at the end
Clay began and everyone joined in-"I've Had The Time of My Life";A; good performance by everyone
Clay-"Invisible" off of his album; A+; I really loved this song and we had thought they were done after "I've Had the Time of My Life" but he came back out, thanked the fans for all of the opportunities he's had and sang this
Ruben-"Flying Without Wings"; A+; I may be a Clay fan, but I do like this song
Ruben, Kim L., & Clay-"Imagine"; A++; this one almost brought me to tears
Everyone-"Proud To Be An American"; A++; this was the grand finale and I thought it was wonderful and it was another one that almost made me cry

for any AI fans who might not have seen it,
bump

Thanks for all this information. I am going tonight, and I am sure the show will be better than I am ever anticipating. I know tonight will be just absolutely crazy with it being Clay's hometown and all.

When Clay told us that they had to start wrapping up after he sang Invisible and everyone kind of groaned about them leaving, he mentioned that he had to get home to Raleigh. He and Ruben and Kim L. also mentioned how happy they were to be back in the South (with Ruben especially happy to have found grits in his hotel yesterday morning LOL )

Girls-Some Motorcyle song;D; nondescript

I just want to say that this song was "Feel Good Time" by Pink which is from the Charlie's Angel's: Full Throttle soundtrack. I actually kinda liked it...but I like the song - so that always helps! :D

Can I just say ::

Clay is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so pitiful. Clay has been all over the local radio stations this morning, as would be expected, and they have been playing his music a lot too, as would would be expected, and I cried all the way to work listening to him and his music.

Everything they asked him, about people copying his hair, people buying the red shoes, becoming a sex symbol, etc., etc., he says he just doesn't understand and was so humble about everything.

If I cried on the way in this morning, what am I going to do tonight?

I am so excited and I feel so lucky to be able to go tonight.

Good grief - I'll bet his security guy nearly fainted!

I remember crying for Kelly when she won...I was just so happy for her. I mean, talk about your Cinderella story. The 'girl next door' working as a waitress wins just about the most important competition of her life. Talk about reality TV...

:D Thanks for taking such detailed notes, Honeywolf. I almost feel like I was there. Sounds like a great show.

:D Hope you have a wonderful time tonight, RweTHEREyet!

Cookie, I think he tends to be pretty naive because I definitely thought of what could have happened when he ate it.
Val, you're very welcome....I'm glad you liked my report.

Thanks for the report!

I really wish I could see this concert, but when it came to Columbus, I was on a plane on my way to San Diego for vacation.:( And there's no way my parents would drive me to another city just to see the American Idol tour (or just Clay, he's the only one I really care about:teeth: ). Oh well, I probably wouldn't have enough money for tickets anyway.

Honeywolf, your recap of the show was on the mark 100%. I even agree with all your assessments.

The only thing I can add is that when Clay was introduced in his hometown, the roof blew off the place. The applause and screaming was so deafening, was so loud, even my teeth hurt. The arena was totally sold out, all seats but 30 sold out on the first day of sales. After Clay sang his first song, the audience applauded and cheered for a solid 5 minutes, Clay blushed and then tears ran down his cheeks. It was so special.

Later in the show, he introduced his Mom and his little brother who were in the audience, and he got choked up again and there were more tears.

At one point during the banter, Kimberly Caldwell talked about how Clay never gets nervous, but said he was extremely nervous about performing in front of his home crowd. They also said that they had heard about Raleigh for days and all were so glad to be there and that we had made them all feel welcome.

Today they take a break and are having a barbeque to convince Ruben that North Carolina BBQ is better than Alabama's. Tomorrow they head to Charlotte, where I would expect their reception to be almost as grand as in Raleigh, as UNCC is where Clay was in college.

The stage was realy cool, as Honeywolf mentioned, fire, smoke, fog, fireworks, etc. people rising from under the stage. It was better than I expected.

Interesting, with all the news about Ruben and his lawsuits to/from the 205 jersey people, he never wore a 205 jersey on the stage last night.

I envy those of you that still get to see the show. Enjoy, you are in for a special evening.

RweThereYet, thanks for the report. I was wondering how it was down in Raleigh. I envy those of you who still are waiting to see it as well.

Lady, can't wait to hear your report. Please tack it on to the end of this post so we will be sure and see it.

I will be interested to hear if he receives as big a welcome there as he did here.

Have a great time.
