We are heading to NY for our daughters 6th birthday surprise at American Girl and were wondering if anyone had parking recommendations? Or would it be easier to park a little outside the city and train it in? Does the train go to that area? We are only going to be in the city for 3 or 4 hours, so whatever budget friendly recommendations are appreciated.

TIA

We went a few weeks ago and we parked around times square and walked over. I did not pay for the parking but I don't think it was more than $20.

Check out iconparking.com - they have locations all over the city, & you can even reserve space in advance online. The price varies by location, but I've used them before & found them to do be reasonable.

AGPNY has a couple of parking garages which you can get validated and the cost is less (I've always paid more than $20, would love to know where the $20 parking is located :lmao:). I always park at W.48th St. ICON parking and just cross 5th Ave. - the last time we were there I paid $48 and we were there for about 3 hours.

Have a great time. We're going in a couple of weeks for our annual back-to-school Sunday Brunch.

another vote for iconparking!! They have promotions/specials all the time for all areas of NYC.
We are driving into the city this weekend and parking for only $10! :thumbsup2

Not to hijack, but has anyone done the Day at American Girl Place recently? I'm also taking my almost 6 year old soon, and was wondering if it's a decent value and/or made their DD feel extra special. Thanks!

BTW-We're taking a bus from the suburbs outside Philly. I'm paying $42 roundtrip and they drop us off/pick us up at Rockerfeller Center, so I think it's a great deal if parking can run $40+.

trains take you into penn station at 34th and 7th...a hike for small children to walk IMHO. if you are spending that little time there you are better off parking. also it may cost the same as all those train/subway fares.

side note....magnolia bakery is about a block from there i believe...if your child has a sweet tooth it may be worth it to stop in, its a must do for me when im near rockerfeller center...also a lego store there, small but cute.

We like to take the Metro-North into Grand Central, we get on in Hastings on the Hudson Stop...very simple no battling for parking.

My budget parking recommendation is to go on a Sunday morning if possible--if you're persistent and lucky and willing to drive around looking for a spot and then walk a few blocks (or maybe even several blocks) you'll be able to find on-street parking. On Sunday you don't need to feed the meters. Morning is not as crowded as afternoon in terms of finding parking.

We park at Port Authority station everytime we go and pay something like $25. It's a short walk to Times Square and not to far from the American Girl store either. We always get to the city early around 9 or 10 on weekends and there is always plenty of parking.

I have a coupon for icon parking, let me see if i can dig it out and figure out a way to get it to you.

Sorry couldn't find mine. We had one from the bottom of a Ticketmaster ticket but must have thrown it away.

Just so you know we are getting one in Virginia at the Tyson's Corner mall soon. (2011 I think) I can't wait, parking there is much better than NYC but have fun.
