American Girl doll: Does your girl have more than one?

We have the just like me doll and Kanani. This summer we visited the AG store in DC and while "Alyse" got her spa treatment and ears pierced, Kanani dined with us. ;)

My DD has 4, and she's getting another for Xmas. We won Rebecca at the AG Fashion Show and the others were bought from my work at a significant employee discount (For example, I got Elizabeth for $60 and she came with two outfits). Plus, my MIL just found a My American Girl doll in the garbage yesterday; the doll is immaculate.

Additionally, my DD got a Bitty Baby at birth and I found another at a garage sale for $2. She also has the Bitty Baby Twins, again bought through work, but I put them away now for my new baby girl coming soon. To me, they are great dolls and absolutely worth it... At least what I paid. Now, though, I'm restricting us to buying clothes and accessories on Cyber Monday.

Yes my girls own more than 1. They own several each.

No, I do not regret it. They were $95 I would have spent anyway on some other stuff. These were Christmas gifts and I prefer to get my children to get what they want for Christmas if I was planning on budgeting that amount anyway. I don't go hog wild though--I don't buy the universe for each doll. But I don't because that isn't in our budget to spend $400+.

Santa may see fit to honor a request and add to someone's collection this Christmas.

Our daughter just turned 8 and we are up to 13 American Girl Dolls so far, with 2 more coming for Christmas... too many... never!

It is so wonderful to see our daughter being a kid, playing with dolls. We'll support her hobby as long as possible. :santa:

My daughter has both Kit and Ruthie. I WOULD regret it if her very best friends did not have a matched set (Felicity and Elizabeth and Julie and Ivy) because by herself my daughter would have no interest in them. But no regrets because 1) they DO get used and 2) in our household a $100 for something that gets used isn't that big of a deal (my son skateboards - any idea how often he needs decks, bearings, wheels and SHOES. My husband plays video games - at $40-60 a pop at the rate of several a month, and my vice is books - this is her one big expense and in the scheme of things, hers is small).

DD9 has Felicity, Elizabeth, Lanie, a Just like Me, and Kanani. Marie-Grace and Cecile will be joining the family at Christmas. She also has Ann, a Madame Alexander that was put out by Williamsburg a few years ago, and a My Disney Girl. The quality of the AG dolls blow the other dolls out of the water.

DD plays with all of them, to the exclusion of just about any other toy. It is a riot watching the whole group of them play a board game with her.

DD10 collects the doll of the year. We have everyone made. Some Santa brought, some Mom and Dad paid for, 2 she saved for. Santa will be bringing this years.

Then we bought Molly and Felicity from a neighbor (pre-mattel). Kirsten was bought from an ebay auction.

Found a JLY at a flea market for $20 (loose legs but does not bother DD).

DD saved her money and got Rebecca and Marie-Grace. Marie-Grace is the first doll that looks like her. Long brown hair, blue eyes and no freckles.

The Doll of the Years she has decided to dress in the meet outfits and put on display. Rebecca has been on display since day 1. She plays with all the other.

She also has a bitty baby and a set of twins in addition to a no-name doll slightly smaller that bitty. All get played with. She has 3 other friends that have 18inch dolls. We just had a AG sleepover for her 10th birthday!

DD12 has 5 and is getting Kit for Christmas this year. She doesn't play with them anymore but does still want to continue to collect the historical dolls along with their book sets. Like others if I didn't spend the $100 on a doll I would spend it somewhere else as she only gets them for Christmas and if that is what she puts on her list and it along with other items on her list fall within our budget, why not get it. I also love that DD still has that innocence about her that at almost 13 she still asks for a doll for Christmas....granted it is to collect not to play with.

When she has totally outgrown having them on a shelf in her room they will be packed away for her own children.

Okay, I just bought Julie for my 3 yr old (with accessories) and Ivy for my 8 yr old (with accessories).

Can anyone tell me about these dolls? I hope their hair is easy to care for!

Thank you!

My 2 older girls, ages 8 and 10, each have 2 and they are both getting a 3rd for Christmas. They play with them alllllllll the time. The other day I took them to Micheals arts and crafts to make a stocking craft. As soon as we got home I asked them what they were going to do with their stockings and they said "they are for our American Girl dolls". They acted shocked I didn't already know that. :rotfl2:

We have Julie, Felicity, Lanie and Elizabeth and for Christmas they will be joined by Kanani and Josefina. And way to many clothes and accessories! :lmao:

DD has a Bitty Baby and 3 AG dolls (Lindsay, JLY and Lanie), plus she's getting Kanani for xmas. :)

My daughter has three (Felicity, Elizabeth and Addy) and will be getting another for Christmas (Cecile).

I own two (Kanani and Marie-Grace) and want to get Rebecca. I don't think I will ever out grow these dolls and I hope my daughter never does as well :rotfl:

The only ones I regret are that she also has the Bitty Baby and the Bitty Twins. Those were pretty much a waste of money in our household. DH's parents bought her Bitty Baby when she was 2. She has never shown much interest in it at all. She may have played with it a few times over the last almost 4 years. They bought her the Bitty Twins for her 3rd birthday. The twins have received a llittle bit of playtime, but not a whole lot. Really from the time she was 2 (got an 18 inch non AG from Santa that year), her interest has been pretty much solely with the 18 inch "older" dolls.

Our experience is almost the opposite. DD9 has 6: Samantha and Nelly, Felicity and Elizabeth, and Emily. She also has a Maplea doll which is the Canadian version of AG and of the same quality. Samantha and Felicity were mine, from back in the Pleasant Co days LOL, and she got Elizabeth for her birthday because she wanted an AG with pierced ears and I wouldn't let her pierce my heirloom dolls  She used saved money to buy Emily, and Nelly came with the Jenna (the Maplea) from Santa last year. She loves them all, and, when a friend is over, will play with them to play school or dance class.

However, the dolls that get the MOST attention from her are her Bitty Baby and her Bitty Twins. She likes to play mommy, I guess those make a more realisitc experience. She is thinking she will use her Christmas money from MIL to buy the new redheaded Bitty Baby. On the one hand, ANOTHER Bitty Baby?! On the other, she absolutely loves them and wanted a redheaded one when she bought the other (with birthday money), but they didn't make them then.

She really doesn't have other dolls of that size, so she basically has a bunch of AG, but not that many dolls over all. She did ask for (and will get from my mother) the Animator series Belle doll. It is sweet, but not AG quality.

My DD has 11 AG dolls -- Samantha, Molly, Kirsten, Addie, Elizabeth, Kaya, Felicity, Josephina, Julie, Kit, and Marisol. All but Marisol are Historical dolls. DD has outgrown them so they are stored in their original boxes with handtags, outfits, accessories, etc... --- waiting for DD's own daughter to play with some day.

That's funny, my son is obsessed with Asian culture and we're not Asian....

I think if you can afford it get another doll. It would be nice to have 2 dolls to play with...tea parties, etc.

My DD has a Bitty Baby, twins plus an extra boy and 6 dolls, Emily, Molly, Elizabeth, Felicity, Lanie and a JLM doll. For Christmas she is getting Kanani from Santa and Marie Grace from my MIL. I don't mind spending the money on the dolls because my DD takes great care of them and plays with them everyday. Plus I'd rather spend the money on something she really wants rather than a bunch of little things that will just clutter up the house. She already has her dolls picked out for her birthday and next Christmas!

Maybe someone on here could help me, sorry OP not trying to hijack the thread. I am planning on getting DD her 2nd doll soon. Originally thought we'd get it for Christmas, but now with the rumors of the 2012 GOTY being a gymnast I think we'll wait until her birthday in Jan. DD's grandmother has wanted to buy her an AG doll that looked like DD. Does anyone know if AG has any plans to add to their My American Girl doll selection? I'm a little frustrated that a medium skinned, brown eyes and straight (non textured) black or dark brown hair doll is not available.

Jey12, here is one with "medium skin, dark brown hair with bangs, brown eyes." She's very pretty, have you seen her?
I was in an AG store and an employee told me they have better My American Girl selection in the stores than online. Have you looked in a store?

Thank you very much! Yes we have seen her, and they do have a few more in the store but they are mostly the light skin with light brown or blonde hair varieties. I pointed this one out to DD and she doesn't like the bangs. Ugh. :headache: I wish they had a way you could order that doll but ask for a different hair style that is available on one of the darker skinned dolls. I would gladly pay a little more. Thankfully getting her one that looks like her is more of something grandma wants vs. what DD wants.
