American Flag ? Re: Flying

We have an American Flag that is on a pole that is on our porch. The pole has two positions one is hangs it straight and on is tilted upright. This is the only place we can put it. Our windows have metal around them and our house is stucco.

Everytime the wind blows it gets stuck in the gutter and then ends get frayed. So we took it to our township building for them to destroy it.

We bought a new one. But it still gets stuck.

If we fly it straight it goes in the garden and it touches my flowers and it looks silly flying that way.

I was wondering if we can hang something on the bottom so it would hold still but I do not want to deface it.

Please no debates, we just want to show our pride for our country.

Any suggestions.

Having a hard time picturing where it is, but you don't want it in the gutter to be sure. How about using a dowel rod type thing to make the flag extend further than the gutter? Run it along the top and bottom of the flag to make it stiff (for lack of a better word).

I did some searching on Flag Etiquette sites, and they say nothing at all about putting anything on the flag to keep it hanging straight up and down. Which to me means as long as it's unobtrusive, you should be able to do it. Of course, if you're being 'true' to the flag, you need to make sure it has a light on it during night hours (if you leave it up), and take it in during bad weather (if you don't have an all-weather flag)....

If flying the flag on a pole presents a problem, try hanging it on the side of the house, if there's room. It can be hung either vertical or horizontal as long as the field of stars is in the upper left.

I live in the UK and hate the fact that if you fly the Uk flag or the flag of St George you face being accused of racism it must be nice to fly your countries flag without that.
