American Charlotte terminal

I used to fly for work and connected many times in Charlotte. No bad unless one is an RJ and you have to go to E. I remember one late night when I was running across the food court on a late connection.

We land at 10:22 and plane departs at 11:15.
Done similar many, many times.
I avoid any layover that is more than an hour.
American will frequently give me connections of 30 min in CLT
I take them a lot and never have issues.
That's waiting on a gate checked valet bag too.
I don't dilly dally going from gate to gate. But I've done the longest, furthest apart gates in CLT and it can be done.

If you are flying in on anything like American Eagle (short connector routes with CRJ like aircraft), you are going to land in E. It is possible that if you are flying out on larger metal (737 and up), then you will have your connecting flight in another terminal. It is about an 18 minute walk from E to A or B. Been there and done that several times...

Is there any construction inside the airport, or is it all done? Wondering if that needs to be factored in.

I didn't see any when I was there in January. Only issue I had was restaurants that had no interest in actually serving customers.

At the larger airports, smaller commuter planes usually have their own terminal (or area) since boarding/exiting the planes tends to work differently and the standard jet walkways can't be used. I would look on your airline website to see where similar flights make connections to determine how far of a walk you will have. Airlines don't want a bunch of passengers missing flights, so they typically plan for the time expected to make a connection. Obviously there can be delays for any number of reasons. Knowing the general airport layout ahead of time is good planning so you don't waste time when you land trying to figure out how to get to your next connection.

If you check your luggage when you first arrive at the airport counter you won't handle luggage again until you reach your final destination. I would however avoid trying to take your luggage as a carry-on only to find the overhead bins are too smaller on some of those commuter airplanes. Have seen when people have to 'gate check' their luggage which will cause a delay when you reach your connecting airport.

What is your plane type on the flight into Charlotte? If it's a Regional Jet, and your have full size carryons you can take another 10 minutes off your connection time. The airport isn't that big or difficult, but going from regional to mainline can take a few minutes.
I was there last month and made it from B to E in 20 minutes. It is AAs largest hub.
DFW is Americans largest hub.

I flew thru Charlotte yesterday (Friday) afternoon. I landed at 4:15 and my connecting flight to Philly boarded at 6:30. I had plenty of time....I went thru Customs - did my Global Entry interview on a whim while I was there since there was only a short wait (I had an appt for next month), collected my luggage, dropped it back of in the checked luggage area, went thru security again, hit the ladies room, grabbed a cup of coffee at Starbucks and still had 30 minutes to spare before boarding started. AND it was crowded!
