Wondering if AA sells box lunches or has some sort of food on the plane other than pretzels / peanuts? United did for about $5.00, and they where like snack packs. Trying to keep nephew entertained and quiet (planning ahead) on plane.

thanks mky :simba:

I flew American in December and last July and neither time did they offer snacks for sale. We are taking something for the plane when we fly in April.

When we flew Chicago to Orange County, California last December, they offered snack boxes filled with all kinds of preservative-laden treats for about $5.00. :sunny:

American offers buy-onboard snacks on domestic flights. Availability varies depending on the time of day and the length of the flight. For details, see http://www.aa.com/content/travelInformation/duringFlight/dining/domesticMealService.jhtml

I've never bought a snack from American. I usually get to the airport around two hours before departure. Even accounting for check-in, security, and boarding 30 minutes before departure, I usually have over an hour for a meal. Most airports have many different food options. I think that's better than buying a snack box or a "Home-style Egg Salad Wrap" from American.

Some advice from a frequent-flying mom: when flying with a child, ALWAYS bring your own food. Never depend on the airline or even the airport to have something available for your child to eat.

If delays happen you can find yourself staring at a concourse full of closed food outlets, so I recommend carrying enough food for a full meal + at least 2 snacks for kids. Adults can often get by on snacks alone, but kids don't deal well with hunger pain while travelling -- pack a meal, drinks and all.

I agree, and as an added FYI, we flew Ted out of Ohare - they had TV's on board, whereas American had nothing, no food, no kindness, the flight attendants seemed "tired", not as cheerful as I was used to, it was so unexpected. (it didnt help any that the original flight I booked was cancelled and they put us on a different flight, and different seats!! - dont get me wrong I fly AA often, to Texas and the East Coast, but I wont fly them again to FL!!)

It's easy to buy or have a small childsize backpack and throw some treats in there, from the fruit rollups, to electronic handheld games... fruit juice, etc... I even hit a Goodwill store and pick up some "New" books to put in the backpack...

Good Luck and have fun!!

American provides service from Chicago to Orlando on 757 and MD80 aircraft. The 757s are equipped with in-flight video and audio. The MD80s aren't.

As far as flight crews, it's the luck of the draw. Some flight attendants enjoy giving good, friendly service; some do as little as possible, as long as they get their paychecks. That's not unique to Ameican.

I've flown United/Ted and American to Florida numerous times. I don't think one is really any better or worse than the other. Neither offers complimentary food. Both offer complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

Last April they served us soft drinls for free Alcohol drinks cost a few dollars. We brought a small cooler in our carry on bag filled with 6 roll up sandwiches, a couple apples and other stuff to fill the cooler. It worked out so good we'll be doing that again this April.
Good Luck all,
Joe

My kids always got thirsty before the flight attendants came around with drinks, so I always found it better to have a juice box or water handy as well! Have a great trip! :sunny:
