just a little vent.
It hit me harder than I thought it would.
We were discussing it in class today and it really opened my eyes to how ignorant so many people are. People were saying " it's disgusting to have two men getting married" and "they're all going to hell, marriage is for one man and one woman". basically this amendment takes away the rights for gay couples to marry AND adopt a child. It made me think of how my life is going to be if it stays like this. I can never get married to the person I want to spend the rest of my life with AND we don't even have the right to raise a family. I DON'T GET IT, I AM AN AMERICAN, I AM EQUAL TO EVERYONE ELSE. I AM HUMAN.
I don't get why people don't understand how horrible it feels to be targeted like that and get stripped of basic rights. The american dream is to be able to fall in love, marry, and maybe have a family. I will never be able to know what that feels like.

It's disgusting. I hate it. It's totally wrong for those amendments/propositions to have been passed. We have no rights in controlling whether or not two men or two women get married and adopt a kid. That should be totally out of our hands and completely in the couple's.

agreed. I saw and was like.. excuse me?
I reallly. am aggravated with california.

I feel sorry for ellen.. She doesnt know that its gone back and Im watching her. They tape her show a day before.

If someone was married while it was legal(which it SHOULD be) do they keep their marriage?

For now, yes. But that could change, I've heard.

Jamie, no. It's null and void.

I am speechless, I am disgusted. I am aggravated, and I am frustrated. Mostly, I am disappointed. Disappointed that a country as "free" as America chooses to deny rights to someone because they live a different lifestyle than some.

I thought that wasn't decided yet?? For those who are already married that is.

I could be wrong though. I haven't been too attentive.

I thought it was decided. IDK, don't take my word for it.

It is stupid...it wont hurt anyone. I have a gay uncle and gay cousin and I feel bad that their life wont be as equal as mine

It's incredibly stupid. I'm so sorry to you and everyone else who cant have equal rights as a straight person.

You may be equal by law, but by society's standards, you aren't.

"if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you prick us, do we not bleed? if you wrong us do we not seek revenge? if you kill us, do we not die?"

all men are created equal.

we used to have laws against blacks getting equal rights too. and look, now a black man is our president.

this is just another river we must build a bridge to cross. perhaps the struggle hasn't been going on long enough. perhaps enough noise has not been made. perhaps enough blood has not been shed.

revolution never came at a small price.

Wow!
It's complete hatred. How the heck does it affect anyone what this poor girl/guy wants to do with their life? Do you know them personally?

By my standards, gay people who have no hatred are more equal to me then straight people who think they are higher then someone because of the sex they like.

Absolutely awful.

Dear god.. are you kidding?

I am going.. to CRY.

How DARE.. how dare they take that away!!! my god that is horrifying.

This is why I love Canada. I live in a country where we accept everyone.

Wow.

I cant.. thats horrible. I have no words.

actually.
they're not equal by law either.
cause you know, we're denying them civil rights.
its hard to be equal without civil rights.

but then again, bigots like yourself objected black rights too. look how that turned out for you. you're only prolonging the inevitable. they will one day be equal. and you'll be alone with your hatred.

I disagree with many of the things this 'society' thinks of as acceptable behavior. Many of the people here are extremely selfish and cruel-and this is yet another event to add to the growing list of proof. In my opinion, it's EXTREMELY immachure. Honestly, how old are these people, five? I hardly call someone going "ZOMG! YOU'RE GAY! THAT'S SO WRONG! THAT'S A SIN! YOU'RE BREAKING THE RULES! ZOMG!" acting like a mature adult. They aren't killing anybody. They aren't threatening anyone. All they want is to be treated as equal human-beings.

All I can say is to never give up hope. It may take a years, or even decades for gays to gain equal rights, but it WILL happen. Just look at what women and African Americans have had to go through to get to where they are today. It won't be easy and it most definitely won't happen tomorrow-but DON'T give up.

Get out there and let yourself be heard. FIGHT. And, eventually, something will have to change.

I don't wnat to be a part of a society that judges based on someones sexual preference.
I can somewhat handle people not agreeing with it for religious reasons, but when you start saying it's 'disgusting' etc, I just lose respect.
At this point, no one is going to change someones mind religiously on this subject.

Not trying to get into the argument, but I think it's pretty ignorant to say that someone's religious beliefs are immature. Different than your opinion? Obviously. I think it's pretty immature of you to not respect that others have a different view of certain situations.

I am not necessarily saying that what they believe is immature, but rather how they act because of that belief. How is holding up cruel signs and calling those who are gay names mature? Showing so much hatred and cruelty towards a group of people souly because you do not agree with what they are doing is immachure. Taking away someone's rights is, in my opinion, the adult version of grounding a child. Would you ground a child because they thought the sky was green? No. Then why take someone's rights away souly because they believe something different than yourself?

I respect that we have different opinions, but I can not respect punishing a whole group of people because of those differing opinions.

It's not fair that other diseases that can be prevented, like AIDS, get more funding than my disease

A) It's not preventable. It is transmitted through the blood. If one person shakes the hand of another, both of them have cuts on their hands, and one has aids, some blood could seep through and then the other has aids. It could also happen with doctors giving someone the wrong needle for drawing blood, they might have just drawn blood from someone who had aids, and they mistakenly use the same needle then you have aids. And it can be passed down from your parents. Babies who haven't turned 1 yet are dieing from aids just like from your disease. What if a man and a woman want to have kids, and one of them has aids but doesn't know it?
B) Are 40-something million people dieing from your disease?
