Amending Alamo Reservation Online

Hi

I booked our car directly through Alamo (co.uk) a few months ago, and only booked one car seat for DS2. Or original plan was to buy DD4 a booster seat, but after discussing it with the car seat people in Mothercare and reading Florida regulations, we decided to get her another car seat the same as DS's.

I tried to amend my order but didn't want to have to go through choosing a car again to get to the added extras screen, so emailed them to ask for advice. They said I had to go through the motions (of essentially rebooking) and it would ask me to put my card details in again.

However, I've tried it, and the car we've booked is now £13.72 more than what we paid, and of course, it's asking me to pay the extra money to proceed with amending the booking!!

So my question is: seeing as you don't pay for the car seats until you get there, can we just tell them at the Alamo desk when we arrive that we'll actually need two and not one, and pay for them both then, rather than having to reserve them in advance?

When we last went in 2011 we only had DD and just needed one seat. Although they said you paid in cash when you got there, we never actually handed any cash over (I think it must have been added to whatever was charged to the card once we returned it), and were just told to choose one from the shed/cupboard on the way out to the car park...

We are collecting our car from the Disney Car Care at the Dolphin resort, if that makes a difference.

Thanks :)

i'm not sure the dolphin will have extra seats just lying around.
They might at the airport (but even there i wouldn't bank on it).

how much are you paying for a seat? i thought renting car seats was beastly expensive.
i always brought ours along with us for that reason.

But maybe it's gotten cheaper over the years.

so..what's my answer? I guess if i wanted to be sure they would have the seat there for me, i would change my booking.
but as i said, i've never rented a seat from them and probably wouldn't.

how much does it cost to rent a child seat?

At the airport, no problem, they have a shed full of child seats in all shapes, size or form.

At the Dolphin it might be a bit trickier as they don't have that much volume.
But, it's inside Disney's property, so common sense would dictate that a lot of guests will have kids. Therefore Alamo should have quite a number available.
You're not required to book a car in advance. You can just walk in and rent, even if it means ridiculous prices.

so I would still chance it.

errr ... errr ... no ... lol

it's $6.99 per day, capped at $70 per rental period.
you can get one off amazon.com for less than $30 shipped to your resort hotel, or at walmart.

OP, I don't know how many adults are in your party, but since you're picking up the car at the Dolphin, your kids might not need to be there. They might be able to spend some resort time with another adult while you go get the car, and take a quick trip to walmart, buy booster seats, before picking everyone up at your hotel.

you could still tell the rep. at the desk that you don't need the Booster seat you ordered, as you pay locally they'll just untick that on their screen and so be it.

It might be cheaper than renting + rebooking.

Or you might take the chance, go to the Dolphin, ask if they have another seat available, and if they don't, go to walmart on the way back (still implies not going with the kids to pick up the car)

We are staying at a resort for the first part of our holiday, and then picking up the car to move to an off site villa. I've emailed Alamo again so will see what they say. Otherwise I'll just have to pay the extra £13...

We have car seats we could take, but with 2 adults and a 4 and 2 year old, with 2 suitcases and hand luggage, we don't really have spare hands for car seats. Plus we're getting the DME to POFQ.

Paying the extra money may just be the easiest thing. Thanks for your help :)

Would your 4 year old not be Ok in a high back booster? Honestly my DD is really tall and has been in one quite a while as she outgrew her group 1 seat so I am not sure what is an average to switch.

We put DD high back booster in 2 pieces in the suitcases so its not separate to carry but then I have always taken her seat so I know how to fit it.

Oooooh didn't think of that. She's in a Group 2 Britax seat, and we've been looking at buying a high back booster seat. It didn't occur to me to lay one in the suitcase in two pieces.

Think you may have given me an idea, and solved the issue!! Thanks! :)
