Is it like eBay where it's only on for a short time? Are the fees exhorbitant? Is it worth it to sell used books? It looks like it only benefits if you have new books.

I've sold many of my dd's college textbooks on Amazon. Love it!!! No need to mess with paypal either (the reason I went this route). There are fees but I figure some money is better than no money. I listed my books before classes would be starting and all of them have sold very quickly (within a day or two). They credit you back $3.99 per item for standard shipping, which covers (barely) the cost of sending a heavy textbook via media mail. Make sure you add in tracking too. HTH

Direct deposit straight into our checking account, at the end of the month I believe.

DH used to do seller support at Amazon, and recently I noticed that a project he had started before their Seattle office closed (they are still mostly in the States, just not in WA) had turned into a full-fledged thing...they have a lovely Facebook account with all sorts of helpful info! He just told me that it's for the normal person sellers along with the people who make it their business. Just search Amazon Seller Support on Facebook, if you belong, and look around!

Seems really helpful to me.

I normally get more then what I originally paid for the books. Once you list your book it sits on the sale list for a period of time. After the time period you get an email to re-register it. If you plan on going on vacation take your listings off since it must be mailed within 2 business days. Shipping is automatically added to the price and monies go to your designated bank account.

I've been doing this since the beginning of the year. It was part of my New Year's resolution to destash the house and save some money for a WDW trip. Working out great so far. Yes, the fees do cut into your profit, but it's so easy. You just enter in the UPC code and that's about it. The item picture and description is right there. What a PP said about the shipping credit is correct. They don't always give you enough to cover your cost, but a few times, it has worked out the other way. Word of caution, pack and ship it yourself. Do not go to UPS to have them do it for you. It will cost you as much as your selling price plus your shipping cost and then some. Just go to Walmart and buy a box or shipping envelope yourself and pack it up. Sometimes, I have found that I can just use a post office flat rate box and it's actually cheaper to do that than to buy a box and pay shipping on my own. You'd be surprised what I can make fit into those boxes. Also, if you are mailing a book, mention to the postal clerk and sometimes, the media mail price is cheaper. Good luck!

sorry forgot to add this
You get direct deposit into your bank account. I set up a separate account for this. It takes about 2 weeks or so for the first deposit. After that, they know you are for real, and you can actually request a disbursement every 24 hours providing you have sales. It does take about 5 business days or so to actually credit into your bank account, though.

I think the listings stay active for about 60 days unless you pay $39.95 per month to upgrade your selling status. By doing so, you cut out a 99 cent per sale fee they would normally charge you. With the upgraded membership, your listings never expire.

2 things I don't care for with Amazon, so I do Ebay.
The fees seem really high and on and on. To me, Ebay's fees are more cut and dried.
Second, I don't like having to pay for shipping up front and then be reimbursed. Also, what a pain to go to the post office. With ebay I just print my postage and labels right from paypal and dump the packages off. Much easier and no out of pocket expenses.
