Amazon prime vs netflix

Honestly amazon prime and netflix streaming is starting to completely stink. :( I'm ready to drop netflix.

Amazon prime members get 1 free kindle book a month if you have a kindle, though the selection is lacking.

I like prime because I like ordering something now, not waiting until I have $25 worth of stuff to get free shipping when I only needed 1 $10 item. I buy so much online that prime is worth it to me. I also buy items that I can only get on amazon like certain food items. I also buy all my ink there, I don't like off brand ink and it's $15-$20 cheaper on amazon.

If you are someone that doesn't shop online a lot or can wait for your items and usually have $25 orders, then it may not have enough value to you.

I have both Netflix and Prime and they both stream most of the same content. Prime does have some older movies (I am a huge B-rate movie lover) but many movies and shows are the same on each service. I wouldn't get Prime just for the movies or shows, you'll be disappointed.

I am a Netflix subscriber, and when we got the free trial for Amazon Prime Student, I was excited to check out their "unlimited movies/TV shows" they offered. Especially when I saw more recent movies than I see on Netflix. But... just because it's "unlimited" does NOT mean every movie/TV show they offer online is included in Prime! Just like their "read one free Kindle book per month" does not mean ANY Kindle book. For popular movies/TV shows/books that don't need to make special deals with Amazon, you'll still have to pay out of pocket for them.

I will keep Prime for the shipping only, and will stick to Netflix for streaming movies/TV shows. My queue is so long I will never be bored, even though it's still not to the point where I can think up any movie I want to see and be able to watch it instantly.

we currently have netflix, and am considering to add either Hulu Plus or Amazon Prime. I saw the other thread discussing Hulu Plus
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2860143
but don't want to hijack the thread

is there any reason I need Amazon Prime in addition to Netflix (I don't need the free shipping)

thanks

Original Poster here from the other thread. :wave2: I would not have minded at all if you asked that on my thread....the more the merrier I say. :thumbsup2

we literally couldn't find anything worth watching on Amazon Prime. What things we did find that were at least barftastic were already on Netflix.

A lot of the content is the same, but Netflix is easier to use. What is really annoying about Amazon is that they do not have a queue and the search (at least through my TV) does not allow you to exclude the pay videos. That being said, I just dropped Netflix because we weren't using it enough. The stuff that we were watching on Netflix was all available on Amazon. I decided that it was not worth paying Netflix when we already have Prime.

As PPs have stated, it is not worth getting Prime for the videos, but it is a really nice perk on top of the awesome shipping offered through Prime. As a graduate student, I am eligible for half price prime for the next 3 years, so I'm planning on keeping it.

I don't have netflix so I can't compare but I do use Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and several others as we find it is cheaper than what cable was running us. You don;t get the newest movies but you do get a good variety. I use crackle also (on my Roku box) and I also use Vudu to rent/watch the newest movies. I like how you have a library for your movies plus wishlist and you get some good deals on renting & purchasing movies.
