Sorry, I gotta vent. I love Amazon, I really do, but this made me so

I was waiting for one of their lightening deals to start, fiddled around for an hour so I wouldn't forget. The picture of the item had a price of about $23 crossed out, check back for the deal price... okay, so the item is normally $23, if I can get a GOOD deal maybe I'll get it. The deal starts and that regular price jumped up to $39.99 and the "deal" is $19.99. GRRRRRRRR Oh well, didn't need it till next year anyway, but that was annoying!

I'm right there with you on this one. Drives me nuts. The price shown before the lightening deal (while waiting) is the current sale price but when the deal starts they show the full price as the comparisson and the lightening deal is frequently not much different than the price was before the deal started. There have been a few good lightening deals but this year I've been seeing this happen a LOT. Definitely a good example of how buyers have a responsibility to know their prices. It amazes me how many of these sell out though so clearly this marketing ploy works on a lot of people. Be proud that you're an informed consumer.

Similar vent here. Son wanted a Lego item. Price was $99 at TRU website.

They posted a "BOGhalfoff" deal coming up.

Guess what? Price JUMPED to $160 for the SAME item......

 I know exactly the deal you are talking about and I passed on it because of that. The Lightning Deal price is always compared to regular retail so sometimes its a great deal compared their sale prices and sometimes it isn't. I definitely did better with last year's sales than this one.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone and I wasn't crazy!!! I don't usually shop the lightening deals, there's not much "good" there for me, nothing anyone I know would want. I have been checking them this year though. First I saw this, but I've only actually watched and purchased one thing, my amazing BBT 4th season for $8.99 :cool1: So this was such a shocker!!! HOPING I get a better deal on the item I'm waiting for now... got about 20 min left.....

I do get your vent... but honestly these sorts of things don't bother me. The item was on sale already. It then was taken off of the original sale and put on a different sale. Happens online and in stores all the time when promotions end and new ones start.

That said, I don't think many of the lightening deals have been all that great this year.

So you're saying my $6 Panasonic corded phone (to plug in if the power goes out) wasn't such a great deal after all? :umbrella:

I don't really get the vent (Not saying you shouldn't vent, just saying I don't get it) because pretty much every store has been doing that around this time for as long as I can remember. I've been laughing at "sale" prices at our local mall for years now.

But I do also agree that Amazon's deals last year were much better, I remember finding a couple of things each day that were worth it, this year I find a deal every 2 or 3 days.
