I went to the beauty salon with my sister on Friday to pick up her wig. She started her chemo treatments earlier in the week and was told she'd lose her hair within two weeks.

So, aside from the trauma of having to try on the wig that she ordered, my sister held it all together until it was time to pay.

She was told by the owner of the shop and our stylist that the wig had been taken care of and she didn't owe anything. My sister thought it was the stylists who had paid for it, but they said it wasn't them.

Here is how kind some people are: a woman who was sitting in the owner's chair was talking with the owner about how she had to order wigs for 3 customers. She said she's never had to order so many wigs in one week before. The woman asked which of the women needed help paying for the wig. The owner told her that each of the women could afford it. One was not more needy than the others. So the woman asked for a brief summary of the women who needed the wigs, age, children, etc.

When she was told that my sister is 34 and has two children under 5, she said that she wanted to buy my sister's wig for her. She said that each Lent, she does something kind for someone and she wanted this purchase to be the kind thing she does. She only had two caveats: she doesn't want to know who got the wig and she doesn't want that woman to know who she is.

So, when my sister heard that, she started crying. Everyone else started crying. I hope that kind woman can know just how touched my sister was by this act of charity for a stranger.

My family has vowed that we will begin to also act like this woman in future Lenten periods. It will mean so much more to another person than giving up chocolate, etc.

That is a wonderful example that there are still great people out there!
I am sorry for your sister's pain

My Feel Good story of the day:goodvibes

Thank you:cloud9:

There is so much good amidst the bad in this world. I will pray for a quick recovery for your sister (and also the family) and I too, will try to spread my kindness-not only for lent, but every day. Thanks for the story!

Touching story. Thank God for good people in this world. Hugs to your sister.

What a beautiful way to embrace the spirit of the Lenten season.

Thank you for sharing that. It brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful thing to do. Nice, nice lady. I hope your sister is doing well and is on the road to a full recovery.

How sweet. :thumbsup2

I hope God blesses her for her kind act.

I will keep your sister in my thoughts and prayers.

:hug:I am almost crying just reading it. How awesome.
I am sorry to hear about your sister:hug:

If you like this story, you'll love how my niece reacted.

When my sister told her that she was going to lose her hair and be bald, my niece (5yo) said, "BALD?!?" My sister told her that will be ok because she is getting a wig and will also be wearing a lot of scarves.

My niece told my sister to wait one minute. She ran to her bedroom and got her Hannah Montana wig and told her Mom she could use that whenever she wanted. She told her to keep it in her room so she has it handy.

My sister went into the bathroom, put on a skullcap and the HM wig. She brushed it and came out to show her DD. When she saw her, my niece said, "oh, Mommy, you're beautiful!" While my sister knew otherwise, she was touched by her DD's reaction.

That made me cry too.

How much more meaningful to observe Lent in that way than to just go to Red Lobster instead of Burger King (or whatever) as so many people do.

Please keep us updated on your sister. What a precious niece you have, too.

This story is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it. I hope that generous woman knows how many lives she touched, not just with her act of kindness for your sister, but also for the example she has set for so many others of us.

And what a generous darling your niece is. Precious child.

What a wonderful story! I am all teary now

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone did something kind for a stranger each day, no matter how small?

Sweet story. Love the niece one too.

Inspiring.

In the past 10 months I have had 3 similar instances. The kindness of others is the most touching thing out there. We can easily make someone else's day. :)

That's a great story.

Being bald was the absolute worst thing about chemo. I don't know why--it's just hair and it doesn't make much sense, but it is.

My dd who was 6 at the time used to rub my bald scalp and say, "Mommy, I love your shiny little head!" Awwww, kids are great.

I hope your sister sails through this.

What a wonderful way for the lady to bless your sister, and such a wonderful way to celebrate Lent. Prayers are with your sister for a speedy recovery.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing this with all of us! for you, and :grouphug: for your sister and neice too! :lovestruc
