HI! We are going on a cruise in March and I was looking at cameras. I was thinking of getting a waterproof one like the olympus tg-3 to use for excursions. But then I was on ebay and saw I could get used sony rx100 (1st generation) for about the same price. I know this is a well reviewed camera. But it would not be waterproof. We have a dslr, but I don't really want to lug that around and I am not aware of all of the features (novice). Most pictures I take now are on my phone.

We are also going to Wisconsin Dells this summer and I could use it for taking pictures at dance competitions (action and casual shots) So what should I do:

1. get olympus tg-3
2. get sony rx100
3. get a waterproof case for iphone
4. other suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

The rx100 is a far far better camera if you want good iq. And it's fine on excursions as long as you don't dunk it in the water. I've taken it on several beaches.

The Tg is better if you want underwater pics.

You could always get an Aquapac, Overboard or other housing for the RX100. Then you'd get the great IQ and be submersible.

I keep my rx100 in a pelican 1020 case when not in use... The TG-3 is not a great camera on land. Underwater is shines. The RX100 with an underwater casing is a step up but the case would be pricey....
