Before Christmas I picked up an amaryllis and a couple of other bulbs. The red blooms are gorgeous but having had one before, it will soon be shedding its 'mortal coil'. I have read how to care for the bulb and "rebloom" it but has anyone actually done it? I just planted a cala lilly bulb today, and I have a hyacinth. That I can plant in the yard this summer. Hyacinths are actually spring bulbs, I have some in my yard.

My parents "accidentally" re-forced an amaryllis. They just left it in the garage after it stopped blooming, and in November my nephew found it, moved it inside and watered it, and voila! Blooms!

The two I bought this season, on the other hand (one from Target and one from Lowes) never bloomed at all.

And I will bet you paid a lot more for yours than I did mine. I got it at the Christmas Tree Shop. I water to the peat moss pellet, stuck the bulb in and put it in the sun. I love flowers in the winter and I have discovered bulbs. They last longer than flowers for sure.

If I had overwatered, would they grow at all? Because they've grown fantastically. They have big strong healthy green leaves. Just no blooms.
