Can anyone tell me a good/bad time to try to drive from Santa Monica to Beverly Hills? We are meeting a tour guide in Beverly Hills for a tour starting at 10am on a Wednesday in July. We are planning on having breakfast in BH. If anyone has any driving recommendations (time it will take based on traffic, route, time to leave), it would be greatly appreciated.

Traffic can be bad, but usually after 9 am it is better. I don't miss driving in southern ca at all.

There is an app called Waze and it shows you what is going on your drive to your destination. Accidents, slow traffic, construction. Hope this helps a little.

I use Waze when I go on these drives, and it has been pretty good. You have a choice of fastest or most direct route. Also, whether or not to avoid certain types of roads like toll roads or freeways. So, make sure those are checked off for your preferences.

Waze has been pretty good about gauging the length of time for me to get someplace. So, if you do use it, figure on a time you want to get to Beverly Hills, and a couple of hours before that, start checking Waze for the amount of time it will take to get there. As traffic gets busier, Waze will adjust the timing.

Traffic can be somewhat unpredictable in LA. Are you planning to take surface streets (Santa Monica Blvd or Wilshire Blvd) or the 10 freeway?

Again it can be hit or miss on any of these routes. I would probably take Wilshire. You will hit heavy traffic as you get close to the 405 Frwy but Generally opens up after you pass the frwy.

Depending on where you are staying in Santa Monica I would estimate 30 to 45 minutes for the drive.

If you plan to eat in BH, I would recommend Nate N Al's. We have been eating there for over 30 years. It will be busy at breakfast but fun people watching. I would ask to sit in Gloria's section. Prob give myself at least am hour for breakfast.

You could also eat breakfast at Il Fornaio - usually not as busy as Nates and just down the street.

FYI - there are 2 hour free parking lots all over BH. So if you know you will be less then 2 hours park in one of those.

If you are looking for small and not a "scene" you can try Brighton Cafe.

Have fun.
