Am I Underpacking?

So I've been reading blogs about the college program and watching vlogs, and talking to other people who have done or will be doing the CP - I now feel like I'm bringing A LOT less than I should be bringing...

Everyone seems to be purchasing new bedding - I'm using my college bedding. They also seem to be buying shower curtains and other bathroom accessories that I probably won't be buying until I buy I home. I mean, things like tub pads for the floor (those things that help so you don't slip and fall), decorative soap dispensers, etc. I've heard of some people bringing furniture slip covers for the chairs and couches...

Are these things I should be buying? I didn't really give it a second thought until I realized a lot more than a few people are buying these things.

I'm bringing my clothes, my college bedding, two pillows, some shoes, my hair/make-up things/shower things, a small desk lamp, my computer, and that's pretty much it aside from some smaller things like my iPod.

It doesn't sound like you are underpacking, but I guess it depends on what you think you'll end up using. I had to buy new bedding because my bed at home is bigger than a twin. I am bringing a cup for my toothbrush/toothpaste and a basket to keep things together around the sink, but that's just because I don't want to have to reach down in the cabinets to get out my hair stuff and because I don't believe the bathrooms have drawers.

I am definitely not bringing any slipcovers, a TV, DVD player or other bathroom stuff besides towels and an over-the-door hook to keep them on. So, I wouldn't go out and buy a fancy bathroom set or new bedding if you have some that works, but if you want too keep your stuff together in the bathroom, a little basket might work well. Of course, if you get down there and realize you are missing something, it will be pretty easy to go out and get. ;)

I hope that was somewhat helpful! :goodvibes

Ok, great! Thanks!

I have about $30 now to last me until my first paycheck at Disney lol. I'm horrible with money. I think I can find something around the house that would work to hold my toothbrush and other things like that until I can go out and buy something better lol. As long as none of that stuff is semi-required (if that makes any sense) 'cause I would hate getting down there and realize our shower has no curtain...lol.

I bought a shower curtain before I moved down because it was cute and I figured it be something no one else would have thought to bring. They do provide one in the bathroom, but we used that one as a liner, and the new one as the curtain. Everything else you mentioned we bought while down there. Bought a rug thing for the tub (our tub looked like it was stained with vomit and no one wanted to stand on it), plus a rug for in front of the sink. All these things we needed though. It sounds to me like all these people that are over packing are treating this like it's their first, real apartment, which it kind of is.. for four and a half months. They're excited and want to decorate it. Also, during my program I came across a large number of people who never even lived in dorms before so they didn't have stuff for twin beds, etc.

Ew, I never thought of what the tubs might look like...:crazy2:

I'm just going to wait until I get there and see what I need, like you did. It seems like the most logical thing to do. Maybe whoever my roommate ends up to be will have bought a shower curtain and that solves that issue lol.

Are trash cans provided for the bathrooms and kitchen?

Are there drawers or cabinets in the bathroom?

Is there an ice maker in the freezer or fridge or should I bring an ice cube tray?

Trash cans are provided.

There should be a cabinet underneath the sink in the bathroom.

There is an ice maker in the freezer.

No, you’re not under packing! I think I took less (Just clothes, bedding, toiletries and a laptop) and I was just fine. There is not a whole lot of "storage" or places to put things in the apartments to begin with so just the bare essentials will do. They really do a good job of furnishing the apartments and the couches and everything were clean, they do a really good job of cleaning things when people move out.

you're not underpacking. a lot of people are overpacking.

also, I think what people don't realize that will be driving is that they have to take everything home the acquire of the next 5-7 months. . .My mom took me and my overpacked stuff to FL. . .and as a result, she took two loads back home for me.

and, with everyone else overpacking, you'll be fine. . .and think of all the people flying. they won't have much.

and about only having $30 till your first check, you really need to see if you can save more than that. because it'll be a while before you get a good first check since the first check takes 2 weeks worth of rent out. . .

I'm going to be flying, that's another reason why I'm only bringing the things that I absolutely need lol.

And unless I get money as gifts from people (I don't know why I would) I'm stuck with that 30. :guilty:

Wooh that's going to rough going 3 weeks with only 30 bucks

I'm bringing clothes, bedding, towels ad toiletries and such, but I'm also bringing books (I love reading) and DVD's, not a whole lot but I just hope I'll have somewhere to put it.

I keep freaking out because I feel like I'll forget something, but then I always remember if I forget anything vital, I can always go buy it if need be.

So I'm wondering if I should go through all I packed and sift out some stuff.

I would worry about packing a lot of stuff. As others mentioned you can buy stuff when you get there. As for having only 30 buck to last until your first check...when I did my first CP I didn't have a lot of cash either and I was fine.

To be honest, I went out a lot and the only food I ever had at the apartment was Ramen and other really cheap stuff. As long as you know how to budget what you have you will be fine. Besides who care about food or whatever you'll be in DISNEY WORLD!!! LOL :)

I'm one of those people that are WAY over packing... haha.

It's my roomie's and my first apartment and we are doing the advantage program so we both felt it was ok to go a little crazy and get a bunch of cute things to help make the apartment feel more "home like" :)

I'm also planning on staying in Florida and getting an apartment or house after the CP... that might be another reason why I'm bringing a lot with me:) At least that's excuse I like to tell myself:rotfl:

Sounds like your gonna be eating a lot of Ramen noodles....
