Am I the only one to not get my kids Disney $$??

Yup-I have.
Bought them for the kids for a trip a few times. Know why? We were tired of digging into our pockets to buy them the big colorful lollipops & all those little things they want or as they say "they need" Gives them a little responsibility with their own $$.
It was nice to give them in a card at Christmas for their upcoming trip. Sometimes they bought things for themslves or friends. It was nice not spending our money and they kept track & knew what they had left if they wanted something special to remember the trip!

I remember whenever my DS was little and I rented a Stroller at WDW
and was supposed to get a dollar back if the stroller was returned--
well I was so mad because I got a Disney Dollar back and not
a regular Dollar. I asked what do I do with this, we were not doing
another park, this was our last day. heading out right now.
Now the DDollar is just another souvinier from WDW but I would
have rather had a real Dollar.

We don't do them either. I've never even seen one! The youngest has been earning money for WDW for a few months now, and the oldest will be on a fixed food allowance. I don't think Disney Dollars will work for either one of them - they have enough trouble with regular money!

We surprised our kids this year with a trip to visit the Mouse. My parents drove us to the airport (we told the boys we were taking Gran and Grandad to the airport). My mum gave the kids an envelope each and when they opened it, there were some Disney Dollars in there for each of them. In our case, this was a cute way to tell them about the trip. It isn't something we will do in future, I don't think. Well, actually, my niece is coming with us in 2010 for a Grand Gathering. I may get her some as it will be her first trip. We'll see.

I had these for my trip a few years ago, and they were great! My teenage sisters were given VISA gift cards for this trip, and they ended up working out much better. Maybe it was just the feeling of having a VISA.
