I love the TOTWL and I hope they keep allowing children there because some parents just wouldn't get to experience it because you can't just leave the kids alone in a hotel room so you can go have a drink!
I've stayed at BLT three times. Once with no children, just DH and me. We enjoyed a few evenings in the lounge. We also enjoyed a few evenings on the trip we had our 8 year old niece and the trip we had our 19 year old daughter. They both know how to behave in a public place and behaved quite well. And we were there longer than just fireworks viewing - we had flatbreads a few times and I know from experience that they make a pretty darn good margarita!
There aren't that many kids there until 20-30 minutes before the fireworks, and they tend to clear out pretty quickly right after.
