I understand it. I just don't "get" it. :confused3 I know they sell some new stuff but I would rather just buy my stuff and not bid. I don't like used stuff. I don't want to sell the contents of my house I would rather just donate stuff or throw it away, shoot me. I know they sell new stuff it just seems like such a hassle compared to the one click order of amazon!
I am not new to computers but I feel like I am the only one that just hates Ebay.
Now Skyauction I love. There I love to bid. I don't know why I don't get ebay.

No you are not alone. I don't like eBay. I did it in the past, but now it's too much hassle for me. If I have something lying around my house I'd rather donate it, or if it's a book I'll just sell it on Amazon. For buying stuff, I'd rather just buy from a merchant too. Much easier and odds are if it's on eBay, I don't need it anyways.

I really can't understand selling clothes on there! You can't try it on, you can't examine it, and you have to pay shipping! That's what I don't get.

It all depends on what you are buying. There are lots of second hand things that are less than half the price of new. A lot of excellent bargains can be found in electronic items, used car parts, concert tickets, vintage clothing, discontinued china, and many over stocked last year's models.

I have never bought OR sold anything on E-Bay. There. I've admitted it. I don't have the time or the inclination to do either.

I just sold all the clothes my daughter has outgrown on there this past week...for one Auction I made 50.00 on one lot of her old clothes. I financed a whole Disney cruise by selling all her old baby items, furniture and clothes....I found a bunch of old cassette tapes in my closet, I was goign to toss them out but thought "hey I will put them up on ebay, what do I have to lose?" well I sold them for 30.00. My daughters old halloween costume from last year- 16.50....I find its a great way to get some extra pocket money every once in a while. Personally I would never buy used clothes but there are people that do!

Ebay is excellent for collectibles. Of course, buyer beware but I've seen some great hard-to-find items.

i rarely buy stuff on ebay, but its great to get rid of old items that others might find valuable. i once sold a cd i bought for $12, for $56! it was an old smashing pumpkins CD from the mid-1990's that was long out of print. i've also gotten some good $$ for old concert t-shirts. but yes, it can be quite a hassle, and i've gotten burned a few times (i'll NEVER take a personal check again, and i recommend that no one else does either!). mostly i prefer half.com.

I use it for difficult to find items (e.g. replacement pieces for an old china pattern) or for some specific circumstances. My DD is at the age now where she is invited to way too many Bat/Bar Mitzvah's for her friends (at least count there are seven coming up that we know of!) Party dresses for her age are expensive and she doesn't want to wear the same dress every single time. So, I found a several really nice party dresses on ebay for great prices -new dresses- for much less than I would have paid for even a single item at a department store (even figuring in the shipping costs.)

I have bought and sold stuff on ebay...and while I haven't done it in awhile, I would again if I thought I had something worth selling.

Personally, I would rather donate clothes but pretty much everything else is fair game! ;)

You can get GREAT deals on collectibles as most collectors/dealers will now tell you if you want to know what something is worth, check the ebay prices. A friend of mine sells antique costume jewelry and does very well.

I have bought brand new books, LEGO's, even DISNEY items (Disney Direct has "outdated"/close-out stuff from all the stores at Disneyland and WDW) for less than half the price I would have paid at ANY store!

There are some web stores that sell only new items on Ebay. Got a great deal on a NEW pair of Birkenstocks. :cool1: Oh, and I saved $100 on my Dyson - NEW from a web store - on ebay.

It's not all garage sale stuff. :)

I know they sell some new stuff but I would rather just buy my stuff and not bid.

There are millions of ebay sellers who deal only in new merchandise, and you do not have to bid. Ebay Stores have fixed price merchandise that you can buy with one click, just like Amazon, or any other online retailer.

you have to pay shipping

Which you would have to pay if you bought clothing from any other online or catalog source. I hate going to the mall, and consider the cost of shipping a value for the convenience of not having to load my kids up in the car, drive to a mall, unload thm, drag them around the stores, etc. And with gas prices nowadays....

Ebay is not just a bunch of weird, used junk. I own an ebay store, and I sell new, unused products. Ebay allows sellers to reach a huge marketplace. I used to have to travel to trade shows every weekend and set up booths - now I can sell to millions of people all over the world without leaving my house.

Ebay also offers buyers who do not live in shopping-rich areas to purchase all manner of goods. Not everyone has a mall, or even a Wal-mart, in their town. The product I sell is not available everywhere.

I have purchased Harry Potter books and memorabilia from England, things I could never find in the states. I have found cherished books from my childhood, without having to rummage through hundreds of thrift shops. I have found great, NEW toys and gifts for my family that are not the same old sweaters and knicknacks that can be found in department stores everywhere, for reasonable prices.

And I have sold my fabric, patterns, and crafts to people from Japan, Finland, France, England, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, all over Canada and nearly every state in the US.

I've had great experiences on ebay, and never been scammed out of a penny.

If you don't like ebay - that's fine, but I have to correct the impression of ebay as being a big messy flea market full of junks and scams. It's not.

I would probably use it more for "collector's item" type stuff, if I was a collector of anything.

As far as buying new Legos or something...I don't know, I'd rather just go to the store.

Used clothing I'd probably not do, since you don't know who wore it before you. :scared1:

Well, I just saved $100 by going through the bidding hassle for an item I was planning to buy anyway for full price. So I guess that's your answer.

When dd was a baby, I bought most of her clothes on eBay. I saved tons of money. I now shop at a local second-hand children's clothing store, which saves a lot of hassle (with shipping and everything). As far as selling stuff, I don't do that much. Once in awhile I will, but I find I procrastinate too much (which is why I have a closet full of stuff I haven't gotten around to putting on yet ;) ).

Hey, it isn't for everyone but I'll be ebayin' for awhile longer given that in 2 weeks I have made over $700

Not into it either. I get some sort of sick thrill out of going to the store and "looking" for stuff.

But, I *might* be inclined to use it I had some speciality item I was looking for. I am considering buying some makeup on E-Bay but it really just intimidates me.

I don't really understand that well how to do it.

Would you believe i actually bought the Dummy's guide to Ebay and it still seems really complicated to get started.

So, i gave up and gave everything away or threw it out.

I love Ebay, but then again I actually like used stuff :rotfl: I can't afford the stuff that I like brand-new :rotfl2: Ebay is great for people like me I think. I haven't been to a mall or a bookstore in I don't even know how long. I could be better about actually selling my used stuff on Ebay, but I have buying down-pat:rolleyes2

I dont even look at Ebay, I think it is a bunch of hogwash, I do my shopping in person so I can see, feel and decide if that product is right for me

I don't get it, I don't like it, and I don't trust it. Once was all it took to make me never go back. And I don't like used stuff. I dislike garage sales, flea markets, and yard sales too. I just know I can do as well shopping sales, and it is new. As mentioned, if I were interested in collectables, I might consider it, but I am so not into that either, lol.
