C'mon now folks...a hot dog in a wheat bun?? ( GAK ) If there is any adult roaming this planet that thinks that adding the wheat bun makes the hot dog "healthy"...

Wheat crust pizza??

I just don't understand.

Now, I do agree that healthy choices are a must. But if you're on vacation and want to eat a hot dog ( and I don't even LIKE hot dogs ) why would you not want to enjoy your hot dog??

C'mon Disney, if McDonalds can add a healthy choice menu to their existing popular menu, so can you.

I just don't get it. :confused3

I agree. Seems that there should be some balance. I am still amazed that they have apparantly removed the healthy lettuce and tomato from the admittedly unhealthy figaro fries! That really doesn't make sense if they are truly pushing towards 'forced' healthy dining.

I say let everyone make the choice. We try to eat fairly healthy at home and even somewhat during vacation. But vacations are just that ... vacations from the everyday and those that want to splurge and eat things they normally wouldn't should be able to. Just my .02.

Totally agree. We eat healthy at our house every day. One of the things dh and I are looking forward to is getting to eat stuff on vacation that we would not normally eat. It's part of the vacation experience... why do they want to take that away from us :sad2:

I buy whole wheat hot dog and hamburger buns anyway, so I don't anticipate having a big problem with them, but I agree about the vacation thing. Why not just add a healthy option to the menu (like a salad) rather than try to overhaul the other stuff? We buy wheat products at home (partnered with the lowfat turkey hotdogs or super lean ground beef) because I try to give my family a little fun while trying to still be healthy. But when I go out on my birthday and get a chili dog and chili cheese fries, I want it made right!

Then again, I don't make it a point to eat helthfully on vacation. I work hard all year, and on vacation is when I take the entire week to eat whatever I want! THAT'S why I obsess over ADRs. I get that some people try to stick with their diet (and some have to) on vacation....but not me buddy! Bring me a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and a No Way Jose, please!

Now pardon me while I go to my happy place....mmmmmm.......:earboy2:

I used to say the same thing about the people who order a double quarter pounder, super sized fries, and then a diet coke. But then DW said, "Well, would it be better if they had a regular coke with it and add all *those* calories?"

I think it's the same thing with the wheat buns. It doesn't make the greasy hot dog itself any better, but the whole meal is better than it was -- assuming that the whole wheat bun really is a good one and not one of those brown breads that are nutritionally indistinguishable from white breads thanks to poor quality ingredients.

As for choice...I agree, there should be a choice! But more importantly, all the buns they offer should be fresh, have a good texture, and taste good.

I agree with others -- on vacation, I'll choose taste over a marginal improvement in nutrients. The other 50 weeks a year, I follow a regimen that I do not enjoy. But for those two weeks, I throw caution to the wind and indulge!

My friends and I have always joked about calories never counting at Disney. :cool1:

Our theory is that if we're walking 5-10 miles a day, we can have french fries, dole whips, mickey bars, and eat what we like bc we are certainly getting enough exercise that week. Then it's back to healthier eating the other 51 weeks of the year. If it tastes good, fine...but please don't give me a wheat bun that tastes like poo.

Personally, I'm happy to hear they've changed to wheat because it's what my family and I prefer. So if they're not giving any options (like it's always been - you never had an option to get wheat if you wanted it), my preference would be that wheat is the only choice. That said, I honestly can't understand why they wouldn't just add a wheat choice, rather than forcing it. I know plenty of people who run screaming from wheat breads just as hard and fast as my family and I run from soft, gluey white bread.

The wheat buns I can do without, but the "healthy" choices for kids is ridiculous. They didn't add "healthy" choices. That implies that you still have the regular kids menu. They did away with the regulars like pizza and give you only the "healthy".
My DS8 was near tears when we discovered they did away with pizza on the kids menu. Ridiculous!

I for one am excited about the wheat bread. We never eat white bread at home only wheat. I am so tired of the only healthy choice being "a salad", one gets pretty sick of salads super quick. Not to mention eating unhealthy all week does a number on my digestive system usually from the lack of fiber so I will be glad to get some fiber from the wheat buns. Now bring on the wheat pasta as well.

Wheat bread is fine for you all who like it...

But how about a choice??

I can say I won't be buying a burger in Disney if all I can get is icky sandpaper bread.

2 words Disney WHITE WHEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's better the the grainy stuff I hear they serve now

I agree with giving the option of white or wheat. I can see why people who like wheat (including me) are happy about the change. When they only served white bread people who would rather eat wheat didn't have that as an option.

I personally do not like Wheat! I think we should have a choice of wheat or white! They are forcing some people to eat something they don't want!! And like the other posters said we are on vacation and should be able to enjoy are selves!!! Disney I think you need to reconsider!!!

Ok... so I'm all about trying to eat healthy and all that jazz, but when I go to Disney World I wanna eat all the junk I don't eat at home FOR THE WHOLE WEEK I'M THERE! LOL!

I think it should be an option. I know a lot of people out there who do NOT like the flavor or wheat. But I wonder has anyone tried to get a white roll instead of wheat with their hamburger or hot dog? I know with the kid's menues at CS you can get fries even though the menu doesn't say so.

BTW do the menues say you are getting wheat rolls?

I'm not a fan of wheat bread but I must say that after a week of flatbreads and fancy lunch meat sandwiches at Artist Palette, the cheeseburger with the wheat bun was great! It wasn't noticable wheat and it was a nice not dry bun! I do love the flatbreads served at SSR and I rarely eat TS meals except I adore HOB and had dinner there twice. I don't think many people will even notice a taste difference. And If Casey's dog buns are wheat, they had me fooled there too because that's a darn good dog IMO, :lmao: ! I really love the ribs and tators at POFQ and wish they would offer that more places too. But the kids menu I do think is a little off... Not much for options that I could see and my *kid* isn't old enough to eat it yet!

didn't Disney just get an award from the acting surgeon general for their commitment to healthy meals for children?

If so, then this isn't going away.

Has anyone else been bothered by the fact that WDW is the most family oriented place on the planet and the food they offer to kids sucks?

I'm glad to hear that changes are being made but I do agree that white or wheat bread should be a choice.

I think it is more about dollars and cents than calories and fat grams.

Why not offer a choice? Because it isn't financially feasible, especially when you are talking quickly perishable bread items (buns). I'm sure the wheat bun and wheat crust vendors offered a pretty sweet deal....plus if Disney could give the appearance of being concerned and health conscious at the same time, then all the better for them.

Look at the recent events involving chickengate. The "official" reason for switching from strips to nuggets? Uniform portions (ahem... portion CONTROL). Why are restaurants interested in portion control? Of course. Revenue. And the downsizing doesn't stop there. Seen the recent posts about the missing Ken's Honey Mustard dipping sauce? Less choices for us=more convenience and less product loss for Disney.

Figaro fries? Easy/ Shredding lettuce and dicing tomatoes=time consuming and costly food prep work. Not having to do that saves Disney time and money and I'll bet the price of the Figaro Fries did not go *down* with the change.

It is so dissapointing. I expect to pay high prices when I go to Disney...and I would much rather pay a little bit more than I already am than to get downsized like this. :sad2:

jmho..

I have a question. Where I shop the "healthier" alternatives are always more expensive. Real wheat buns are more expensive than white buns for example. So....is disney really doing this to give us healthier choices, when there is no choice, or did they get a sponser of all their buns/bread/pizza dough that sells them the "healthier versions" cheaper?

The changes really bother me. Even at TS meals my kids have a very hard time finding something to eat. Often DD9 orders off the adult menu. The wheat buns will turn DD7 away. She loves wheat bread at home but don't mess with her idea of a burger or hotdog on a white bun!
