Am I the only one more excited about Pandora than Star Wars land?

Okay, so truth time. I've never been a giant fan of the SW movies. Sure, they're gorgeous and even entertaining. But they never pinged with me the way other things did.

I'm not a huge Avatar person either. So, left without that personal connection, I find myself being drawn more to the idea and artwork of Pandora. It just looks amazing and like it'll fit into AK seemlessly.

While I know SW is the big news of the expo, I was curious if anyone else felt like this.

I CAN'T WAIT for Pandora.

Animal Kingdom is my favorite park. To be able to be there after dark with Pandora, a nighttime safari ride, the new show....:faint:

I'm excited for everything else too.

I'm sure you are not the only one. My wife is a big Avatar fan.

OTOH, I'm a big Star Wars fan.

I'm not a big fan of either properties, to be honest. I'm still really excited for both lands, and I think they'll provide wonderful environments and amazing experiences. I think Star Wars is going to be more spectacular and detailed since there's a lot more canon to work with, whereas Pandora will be more beautiful and peaceful. Both should be very different and rich experiences, but I think it will depend on whether you like a loud/busy environment or a quiet experience in a nature-like environment.

My husband and I liked Avatar and we believe it will be amazing.
I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan and I can't wait! My husband and kids are too but I'm the biggest fan in the house and I've wanted to go to Star Wars Land since I was a little girl. I am really hoping some smaller pieces like the Launch Bay will be open for our trip in December. I just wish I knew it would be officially opening!!

It's going to be amazing, and it's really going to change the way we experience AK...and as @rteetz pointed out, it'll be done first! Since yesterday's announcement, I was wondering if I was the only one NOT excited about Toy Story Land? :confused3

Rivers of Light might push that even further for our choice-but Fantasmic is hard to beat.

Toughest part which which attractions will be our FP+ choices at each park.

Pretty sure we will split choices on different nights.

I'm really excited about all of it!! Probably most for Star Wars, but really looking forward to Avatar Land as well. All this and my favourite resort CSR is getting a complete rehab!!

Good times ahead!!

I'm a Star Wars nerd but right now I'm more interested in Pandora. It sounds like the Star Wars expansion is many years away plus I'm uneasy about the attraction descriptions. I'm sure that I'll get excited when the time comes but right now Pandora looks amazing!

I am not a huge SW fan, but I otherwise agree completely. The attraction descriptions leave much room for speculation.

AK will be one sensational evening for our group now, actually multiple evenings each trip, and probably open it one day as well to compare the AM safari to the evening.

I think the artwork is beautiful and it has the potential to be a really engaging and slick new land. I'm just shocked they went forward with this after the success of only movie that seemed to lose steam after its release and juggernaut performance at the box-office. Other than in connection with the AK expansion, I don't hear about the movie---ever. Star Wars on the other hand, I think you have to be trying really hard to avoid. The next SW movie is going to 100% make a huge amount of money and break records; even if it's bad. I'll be very curious to see how many people still care about Avatar whenever the next movie is out.

great comments
i cant see how anyone would be disappointed with what was presented yesterday
its not either or for me its ill enjoy both

Star Wars could be great, but I think people are a little bit taken aback, or hesitant to express enthusiasm, because the planetscape or look-and-feel of the land is unfamiliar and hard to instantly relate to. The ride descriptions are vague and somewhat open to interpretation (or misinterpretation) as meaning video-based TSMM or Star Tours type rides. And the time scale of completion is so far in the future it's just plain hard to relate to your future-self and future-kids, and imagine what it will feel like to experience the rides in 5 or 6 years. The hardcore SW fans are worried at the thought of possibly reduced SW weekends in the meantime (though some are pumped up about what they imagine will be a ramp-up over several years themed dining and retail). The non-SW fans are aghast at the thought of a half-closed DHS going on that way for years.

Avatar comes off better by comparison not because it's inherently superior, but because the look and feel of the planetscape is very well known and it is certain that the land will be an impressive representation of Pandora. The rides relate to Soarin' and to boat rides like Pirates or Jurassic Park which are both popular types of ride. And you'll "only" have to wait 2 years to experience Pandora.

Not a bird in the hand, but a bird that is about 4 years closer to being in your hand.

I think I’m looking forward to Pandora more, too. Maybe it is because it will be unique and exclusive to WDW.

I am completely *meh* about Pandora - "whatever." I still don't understand Disney building a whole land about a property they don't own, and that isn't a part of the public consciousness at all.

I hope Cameron is paying them at least a billion. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Well Disney built star tours before they owned Star Wars. I'm just very happy AK is getting much need love.

True, not a lot of people talk about Avatar. But a huge number of people internalized it, so what they got from the movie was a personal experience for them, and not something they would talk much about. I'd like to compare some of the reactions to the movie as almost in line with a spiritual or religious connection, more than just an action movie on another world. Still, beyond that, wouldn't riding a banshee be just the coolest thing you can imagine?
